Morning Brew – Friday, July 29: Tila Tequila on friendship with Sam and Lindsay, Jane Lynch is not Ellen
Happy Friday all!
I’ll be leaving this weekend for La La Land to cover TCA for the site. Which means I’m going to rope Heather Hogan into doing the Brew while I try to bring you the most exciting stuff about new shows from the networks. I love you that much! Also I really want to touch Rachel Maddow. (Her hand will do!)
In a promo for the Emmys, Jane Lynch jokes that she’s not Ellen — but she can be if it means she gets the job as host.
Can’t wait to watch Jane in action.
It surprised me yesterday that The Talk hosts discussed the lesbian who was asked to turn her “Marriage is so Gay’ shirt around at Dollywood recently. But it surprised me more that Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne and Holly Robinson-Peete thought the theme park security guard was right to ask. They argue that you shouldn’t have to “explain” things to your kids at theme parks — you’re just there to have a good time.
I’m glad Sara Gilbert had a little bit of a backbone in this discussion. Nothing about that shirt was offensive. If you are upset about having to explain to your child why marriage is so gay, then maybe you need to think about it yourself.
A new episode of The Guild is up! No lesbian action continued from last season (yet), but still: Felicia Day!
Alan Ball announced that he has signed on for a fifth season of True Blood. Phew!
Katie Melua went on a trip to Antarctica and Opel Project Earth was there to film the whole thing.
Tila Tequila was on Howard Stern a few days ago and said she didn’t know why Samantha Ronson felt the need to say she was happy when Tila got severely battered at an ICP concert last year. Tila told Howard:
it’s weird because Samantha and I were kind of friends. I wouldn’t say friends but we were acquaintances, I knew her way before she started dating Lindsay and all that stuff. We were pretty cool. So when she said that I was pretty shocked. …. Everybody knows her as the iPod DJ, she’s just dating Lindsey for press and when she’s running out of press she goes back to Lindsay. That was very unhealthy for Lindsay.
Tila dated Courtnenay Semel, who was BFF with Lindsay before Lindsay dated Sam, so Tila probably knows a little something about Lilo. Tila also disclosed she hasn’t been with a guy in six years — until now. She recently broke up with her GF in L.A., who she wouldn’t name but works in the entertainment industry, and is now dating someone in New York. So there’s that, if you care.
After the passing of Amy Winehouse, producers have leaked a clip of Naya Rivera performing Winehouse’s “Valerie” from the upcoming GLEE 3D film. Don’t you just love hearing Naya sing about another girl? (Who is this Valerie, BTW? Change it up to “Britt-a-nayyy” and it’ll be perfect.)
CBC’s Being Jann has an interview with Tegan and Sara’s mom for a special mother-themed episode.
