Afternoon Delight: Jane Lynch hosts the “Do Something Awards,” Hilary Swank starts an uprising

Good afternoon, my lovelies!

Happy birthday to out comedian and Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same star Jackie Monahan!

The one and only Jane Lynch will host the 2011 Do Something Awards. Lynch uses her comedic brilliance in the below promo by mixing up do “something” with do “someone.” Like I need another reason to love Jane Lynch.

And because I think you can never have too much Lynch, check out this additional promo for the show.

The 2011 Do Something Awards airs August 18 at 9pm/8c on VH1.

If you watched last night’s So You Think You Can Dance? then you witnessed Top 10 contestant Jordan and all-star Brandon perform a contemporary routine to out artist Jessie J‘s “Who You Are.” (I love that song.)

Who makes the most money in the U.S.? A recent survey shows that straight white males are no longer the dominant breadwinners. According to CareerBuilder, LBGT workers now appear to be the most likely to earn six figures. (First we take over the workforce, then world domination!)

These days fundraising pages are a way to ensure indie film/ art projects actually get made. Check out the IndieGoGo page for The Untitled Black Lesbian Elder Project, a feature-length documentary “honoring the legacy of black lesbian elders.” Filmmakers Tiona McClodden and Lisa C. Moore have only nine days left to reach their $10,000 goal. Please help them out if you can.

Actress and IT girl Jennifer Lawrence is in talks to star in Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg‘s new drama The Silver Linings Playbook, based on a novel by Matthew Quick. The story centers around a man released from a mental hospital who believes his life is a movie produced by God. (Wait, I thought my life was a movie produced by God! Although I think God shelved my black comedy a few years ago.) Lawrence is in contention to play the role of Tiffany, a “very attractive widowed wife.” Widow? Lawrence is only 20 years old!

Academy Award winner Hilary Swank has signed on to produce and star in the action movie Shrapnel, based on the graphic novel trilogy by M. Zachary Sherman and Bagus Hutomo. Swank will play a “former Solar Alliance Marine, who helps lead an uprising on Venus against the tyrannical solar government in the year 2250.” Hasn’t Swank played this part before? Oh wait, I’m thinking of The Core.

In a press release, Featherstone states, ” I have come to realize that this show reflects my life – where I’ve been, where I am and where I want to go – in a way I couldn’t articulate on my own: from abuse and desolation to anger, alienation, acknowledgment and unification. The photographs are all, in some way, a reflection of who I am. … It is an autobiography of sorts.”

The exhibit features the work of Sarah Baley, Sally Davies, Tierney Gearon, Sandy Gray, Naomi Harris, Hana Jakrlova, Sharon Johnson-Tennant, Siri Kaur, Gillian Laub, Kristina Loggia, Lauren Marsolier, Mary McCartney, Susan Meiselas, Catherine Opie, Alison Van Pelt, Cydney Puro, Marjorie Salvaterra, Jessica Shokrian, and Deanna Templeton.
