Afternoon Delight: “Pretty Little Liars” nabs Teen Choice noms, Jorja Fox is a regular again on “CSI”

Happy 40th birthday to Grey’s Anatomy‘s Sandra Oh! Dr. Cristina Yang is my personal favorite. (Sorry Calzona!)

Jorja Fox is back! The actress will be returning to CSI this fall upgrading from a guest star role back to series regular. Congrats to Fox! CSI‘s 12th season begins September 21 at 10 p.m. on CBS.

Congratulations to Pretty Little Liars for racking up five Teen Choice award nominations. Both Troian Bellisario and Lucy Hale are up for Choice Summer TV Star/Female (umm, no Shay Mitchell?) and the series is in the running to become America’s Next Top Model for Choice Summer TV Show. The 2011 Teen Choice Awards will air August 7 on Fox.

Ever since last year’s Academy Award-nominated thriller Winter’s Bone, I’ve been a fan of actress Jennifer Lawrence. So much so that when I found out Lawrence was starring in the Hunger Games film series, I ran out and read the books, which I now love even more than Lawrence. (As they say, women come and go…) Check out The Hunger Games‘ snazzy new motion poster.

The first of the four HG films will hit theaters March 23, 2012. I can’t wait!

Next Tuesday, July 26, LAWN (Los Angeles Women’s Network) is hosting their monthly women’s social networking event at The Village (11125 N. McCadden Place. Hollywood, CA.) If you’re not already a member consider joining the club that aims to “create a community that supports the work of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center.” The 7:30 p.m. event will feature guitarist Janet Robin, and if you’re over 21 years of age there will be specialty drinks provided by Ketel One and Nolet Gin. If you’re like me and prefer to chew your calories they will also be serving ice cream sandwiches. Yummy! For more information visit lagaycenter.org/lawn.

For those of you who are located on the east coast of the United States check out the comedy stylings of LGBT supporter and funny lady Shawn Pelofsky. The award-winning comedian, who has performed with SNL‘s Will Ferrell, will be hitting the stage this Sunday, July 24 at The Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, MA. Tickets are $20 and can be pre-purchased at onlyatthecrown.com.

As some of you may know, I’m a vegetarian but that doesn’t mean I don’t love my meat-eaters. If you enjoy eating and cooking meat consider getting your flesh from butchers and married lesbian couple Amelia Posada and Erika Nakamura, the women behind Los Angeles’ buzzing butcher shop, Lindy & Grundy. The duo is getting rave reviews for their “house-cured bacon” and they are both proud members of the Butcher’s Guild. There is a guild for butchers?

Speaking of lesbians and food, last night I dined at Top Chef alum Jamie Lauren‘s new stomping grounds, the Los Angeles restaurant Vodvil. The eatery, which hosts an excellent a game night, offers dishes ranging from spicy kettle corn to “Indian-inspired lamb.” I sampled the falafel sliders and they were scrumptious.

I am a child of the 1980s. I permed my hair (just the bangs because my mother was on a tight budget) and I watched every episode of all female rock series JEM and the Holograms. They are truly truly truly outrageous. If you’re a Jem or Jerrica fan you can purchase The Truly Outrageous Complete Series! 11-DVD set or the JEM and The Holograms – Season 1 four-disc set starting October 11. I know what I want for my birthday.

All right you basketball fans, I just wanted to remind you all that this Saturday, July 23, the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game will be televised nationally on ABC starting at 3:30 p.m. ET. Make sure to tune in and support our female athletes!

This Friday, July 22, out country music star Chely Wright will be attending the screening of her feature documentary Wish Me Away at New York’s LGBT Film Festival, NewFest. To purchase tickets for the film or to get into the party and gawk at the sexy blonde musician visit newfest.org (or call 646-290-8136).

LGBT Ally of the Day:

Thanks to AE reader angelism I became aware of a Twitter “incident” between freelance journalist Alice Clarke and Grey’s Anatomy star Jessica Capshaw. Now, I’m not sure what Clarke’s sexual orientation is (she does follow Tegan & Sara and Rachel Maddow on Twitter) or if she was just trying to be playful, but when Clarke teased Dr. Arizona Robbins about joining the “Meatless Monday” movement and related it to playing gay, Capshaw wasn’t having it.

Oh snap!
