Morning Brew – Monday, July 18: Emily Deschanel and Chely Wright at Outfest, Beth Ditto at Lovebox

Good morning!

I’m still sad that the US team lost to Japan in the World Cup Final yesterday, but it was a really good game. I scared my dog a couple of times from my shouting. They are not a happy bunch.

I’m sure the ladies will be doing a ton of interviews now, so hopefully we can catch them on Good Morning America or some other TV talk show. UPDATE: Abby Wambach and Hope Solo will appear on The Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday night.

Outfest ended this weekend and some of the lesbian-themed films received top honors. Circumstance picked up the audience award for outstanding first U.S. dramatic feature film and its star, Nikohl Boosheri, took home best actress. And Madeleine Olnek, director of Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same, received the Emerging Talent award. Here are a few photos from the last few nights of the fest at the premieres of The Perfect Family and Wish Me Away. The woman with pregs Emily Deschanel is Angelique Cabral, her on-screen partner. Very cute couple.

The best part about this review of Samantha Ronson‘s live show are these lines: “A special shout out to the girl who was molesting herself on the dance floor in front of Samantha. We’re guessing she wants to be Sam’s new Lindsay Lohan.” Because when I saw Sam in Chicago a year or two ago, there were a ton of Lilo-alikes trying to get her attention.

Jane Lynch says she is totally fine with some of the stars on Glee graduating.

I think it’s kind of cool that they will graduate And I also think it’s kind of cool that the teachers get to stay!

That’s one of the perks of being a teacher – you always have summers off and you never leave high school. That’s an arguable perk.

Beth Ditto performed at London’s Lovebox festival over the weekend, which explains why I haven’t seen her around Portland yet. In true Beth fashion, she stripped down to her undies and shook her ass on stage.

This weekend’s New York Times has a super cool in-depth profile of Miranda July. Did you know she invented Coke II? I don’t know what that is, but it gave her the time and money to afford to sit and write and create and do all the things she does now. Pretty amazing.
