Morning Brew – Tuesday, July 5: Kate Moennig in “Work” magazine, Tasya van Ree on visibility

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a nice holiday and not too many burns from sparklers or rogue roman candles. I spent my weekend moving across the country, and I’m now getting up extra early to provide you with this Morning Brew. I can sleep when I’m dead! Or later today, nap-style.

Because some of you asked before about my wedding photos, you’ll be the ones that care that I finally got them in! Here are a couple for those who had any interest or enjoy wedding porn.

Enough about me! Onto to the stuff you care about. (Hopefully, or I’m up way too early for this!)

We’ve told you before about Work magazine, but you’ll really be interested in the next issue, which comes out July 16. It’s got work from Tasya Van Ree, iO Tillett Wright and an interview with Kate Moennig. Here’s a sneak peek shot of Kate by our own Lindsey Byrnes.

I need to get my hands on a real live copy of this one, but they generally put up some of the content online, too. Check it out in a few weeks.

Speaking of Tasya, she was interviewed by a French website, who asked her how important it is for she and girlfriend Amber Heard to be visible as out public figures. Roughly translated, Tasya answered:

Our country has long experienced the scourge of inequality. Therefore the visibility, now more than ever, is essential. We need awareness, tolerance and acceptance.

HBO has the most boobs. It’s true — the L.A. Times counted. And let me tell you something: Many of these boobs are in lesbianish sex scenes. We’ve seen this on Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and True Blood. Obviously Showtime is upset about this, and that’s why they are trying to up the ante with The Real L Word, because there are way more boobs on that show then on Nurse Jackie and Weeds combined.

Michael Jackson’s brother Randy is alleging that Tina Turner had an affair with his girlfriend. Maybe she was just practicing her choreography for “Private Dancer” and needed some feedback.

NPR has a great piece on gay and lesbians who are closeted at work. The moral of the story: It’s been difficult to be out in some environments, but because a new generation of queer people are living much more out freely, it’s becoming easier. I’m totally out at work! No one cares, either. Karman is fine with it.

Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley said she doesn’t appreciate lesbian rumors, but she does want to be a voice for the LGBT community in India.

I have openly supported the LGBT community and I don’t feel shy about doing it. But what annoys me most is when people pass very stupid remarks. You can’t even imagine, people have gone to the extent of saying that I’m a lesbian and my father and brother are gay! It’s so weird and difficult to even understand the mindset of such people. Sadly, people in India have still not accepted the community. It is sad that people have always misunderstood me. However, it does not bother me, nor my family members. I shall still continue to show my support towards the community.

We’ll take it!

Another day, another bisexual Real Housewife. This time, it’s New Jersey’s Melissa Georga. The National Enquirer interviewed Melissa’s former high school girlfriend, who shared some tidbits from their 18 month romance. Here are some of the classy details!

After we started dating, Melissa told me I was the first girl she’d ever been with. We managed to keep our relationship a secret from her mom for several months, even though I spent the night at their house several times a week and we’d sleep in the same bed.

Of course, the story is super sensationalized and makes it seem like Melissa is a closet case. Gotta love the Enquirer. Who seriously buys that rag?

Glee fans should be happy to know that Naya Rivera and Heather Morris will definitely be back for next season. Sam (aka Chord Overstreet) isn’t so lucky. Are you sad about Sam?
