New Music Tuesday: 6-14-2011

Well hello there! I can’t think of anything clever to say, so instead I will go back to drinking my coffee while I present you with today’s new music and wait for Trish to IM me with more links to Coco’s Twitter tips.

The slow, beautifully haunting voice of Marissa Nadler reminds me a bit of Mazzy Star but with a more mature tone. While the sad country overtones of the album are abundant, there is something oddly comforting in all the gloom. Save the beauty of listening to this album for when you’re feeling introspective.

Ledisi brings a great blend of old school R&B, funk, jazz and soul into this album. Kick back with a glass of wine and maybe treat yourself to a bubble bath while listening to the title track.

I’m just gonna come out and say it because I can’t pretend it’s not true: kids with voices like this scare me. Even if it’s not really true, it makes me think her vocal chords were given the Toddlers & Tiaras treatment, we just can’t see it. There’s no denying this 11-year-old has an incredible voice. She came in second place on America’s Got Talent in 2010 and I’m happy she’s able to sell an album of cover songs, it’s just not for me.
