Afternoon Delight: Countdown to “Bridesmaids” and GagaVille

Good afternoon, my lovelies!

There are only two more days until Bridesmaids hits the big screen. If the film, starring an ensemble cast of amazing women (headed by SNL superstars Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig), is playing at a theater near you, please go out and support the film on opening weekend.

Last night Rosie O’Donnell was featured on The Insider. O’Donnell is currently gearing up for her show on Oprah’s OWN network but The Insider wanted to remind us all of O’Donnell’s humble beginnings. (That’s if you think “humble” means starring in a movie with Tom Hanks and Madonna.) Check out the video below from 1992 in which O’Donnell  (sporting a Carol Brady hairdo) discusses working on A League of Their Own.

Last year, artist A. L. Steiner showcased her critically acclaimed installation at MoMA P.S.1 featuring images of naked women (thank you), nature and beaten body parts (no thank you.) Steiner recently completed a comedic film exploring queer sexuality that she refers to as a “sociosexual” video (you might call it a “porno”) titled Community Action Center. Steiner talked to The New York Times about living in this "ridiculous world" and her upcoming "Celesbian Mini-Euro Tour" beginning this June.

The lovely out actress Jasika Nicole stars as Agent Astrid Farnsworth on the sci- fi series Fringe, but did you know Nicole is also an artist and handbag designer? Although Nicole’s artwork is not for sale to the masses yet, her handbags are available for purchase at

If haven’t had enough of Lady Gaga,  (wow, you have a really high tolerance!) the superstar is invading Facebook with her FarmVille spin-off GagaVille, a virtual community that exists inside FarmVille. Do I need to get shots to visit GagaVille?

GagaVille will debut on May 17 and users will be able to unlock previously unreleased content from her upcoming Born This Way album. If that’s not enough, FarmVille creator Zynga will be offering $25 game cards (available at Best Buy) that combine the Born This Way album with a Gaga unicorn for you to use in GagaVille. A Gaga unicorn? Do they have other fictitious creatures, like Gaga mermaids or Gaga leprechauns? GagaVille is only available for a short period of time and closes down on May 26.

Out film director Lauren Fash is working on her newest short film Quiet, about a woman, Ali, who is forced to lie about her relationship to her dying wife, Sam (Ali pretends she is Sam’s sister) so that the two women can spend Sam’s last moments together in the hospital. Visit Quiet’s Kickstarter page to donate and learn more about the film that is scheduled to start shooting at the end of this month.

Last night on The Daily Show Jon Stewart introduced a new segment called "We’re Here We’re Queer Get Newsed to It." Stewart, who’s obviously a LGBTQ supporter, commented on the progress of the queer rights movement over the years and addressed Tennessee’s new "Don’t Say Gay" Bill. The bill states that in Tennessee "No public elementary or middle school shall provide any instruction or material that discusses sexual orientation other than heterosexuality."

Stewart quipped, "You know keeping people from saying the word "gay" is not really going to keep people from being day. Being gay isn’t like Beetle Juice, if you say it out loud too many times you’re gay." I love Jon Stewart!

On the May 16 episode of Logo’s Setup Squad, lesbian wing-woman Meredith Schlosser will help socially awkward dater Linden figure out how to twirl her hair and seal the deal. (If I girl was twirling her hair at me, I’d assume she had gum stuck in it and needed help getting it out.)

If you’re in Los Angeles please join me next Friday, May 20 as I host a Wig & Mustache Extravaganza at East/West Lounge in West Hollywood starting at 9 PM. (Like I need another excuse to wear a wig!) The event is free and there will be a special performance by the band Pegleg, featuring some very powerful lesbian musicians.
