Morning Brew: Thursday, May 5: “Jack & Diane” gets a distributor, Vicci Martinez on why she said yes to “The Voice”

Happy Cinco De Mayo! Will you be celebrating today/tonight? I am a fan of margaritas, myself. On any day, really, but especially today.

Good news! Lesbian werewolf flick Jack & Diane has gotten picked up for worldwide distribution by Magnolia PIctures. Not too shabby for a film that’s still in post-production. It’s supposed to be finished this fall, which means we’ll probably see it in 2012.

The rumor mill is at it again! Angelina Jolie hasn’t done anything scandalous in a while, so the tabloids are saying she’s having some lesbian rendezvous at the Roosevelt Hotel. (Pictures or it didn’t happen!) The best part about all of these gossip blogs picking up the story is that Jenny Shimizu probably gets so many Google alerts of her name for a relationship she had in the 1990s. Can you imagine if your ex followed you around like that forever? Well, I guess you wouldn’t mind if it were Angelina.

Rachel Maddow went on The Daily Show Tuesday night and you can catch her conversation with Jon Stewart right here if you forgot to TIvo it.

Is it wrong if she’s the only person I vote for on the Hot 100? Is it wrong if I do it while staring at her picture and singing “Nothing Compares 2 U?” Thought so. OK.

Out lesbian Vicci Martinez talked with RealityWanted.com about her experience on The Voice so far. She told the site she was asked to audition for Idol but turned it down and what she thinks she needs to do to win this competition.

I think I need to stay myself. Even if that doesn’t get me any further, I’ll be like, “Well, I tried my best and I didn’t have to mold myself into anything.” And if that’s what gets me further, that’s great. As long as you’re yourself, whatever you do in life, you’ll be happy. I think shows like this… I hope they’re an inspiration to people to live out their dreams and know that they can do anything that they want to do. I believe in manifesting your dreams. When you have good intentions, good things will happen.
We’ll have our own interview with Vicci for you soon. Also, I can’t wait to see her in the dueling duets next week.

My girlfriend is obsessed with the show Top Shot, History Channel’s marksmen reality competition. This season I began to get into it with her because there were two women on the show, and that was enough to pique my interest. So I am really happy to hear that the show’s producers are reaching out to the LGBT community to actively find gay and lesbian sharpshooters for their next season. Outsports.com says the show has contacted them for the second time to find some queer competitors, and I am nothing short of begging any one of you who are great shots to apply. You have until May 20. I want to watch you!

Guess what tonight is? That’s right – Callie and Arizona are getting hitched on Grey’s! Stacy McKee wrote the episode, and she told E! how she got the assignment from Shonda, and about writing the women’s vows:

They are special TV “I love you” vows, but I did use fairly traditional Catholic vows as a template because that’s Callie’s background. And it was important to Callie to have a lot of tradition in her wedding. And as you can see there are white dresses and lots of flowers. No white leisure suits here. It’s full-on wedding.
Thank God for no white leisure suits.

Actress/singer Taryn Manning has released a new video for her single “Turn it Up” and she said it’s for women who want to be in control of their sexual prowess. That includes you, gay lady!

It’s a flirtatious song. Guys always write songs about girls and sexual stuff. It’s almost a girl’s take on being a little pervy in a funny way. .. It’s really just a bunch of metaphors for having fun with the opposite sex, or the same sex, or whatever you might prefer.
