Afternoon Delight: Otep wants to seduce Sappho, Julianna Marguiles supports marriage equality

Good afternoon!

Happy Birthday to Penelope Cruz, who turns 37 today and will soon (May 20) grace the big screen again in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. thinks Naya Rivera should be up for an Emmy for her portrayal of Santana on Glee this year. If you agree (and if you’d like to check out their photo gallery of the Glee ladies in New York), you should consider voting for it on their site. In other Naya news, Dianna Agron tweeted out this photo of Rivera and Heather Morris. I’m pretty sure she’s trying to whip Britanna fans into a frenzy:

Did it work?

Mad June will soon be releasing their first single, and if you’d like a chance to get a free copy before everyone else, just post a comment about them (@MadJune) on your Twitter account and ask your friends to follow them too. You can use the hashtag #madjunecontest. I’m guessing that they’d prefer that your comment about them be positive and/or complimentary. Just a hunch.

Just a reminder that the new season of Weeds will premiere on Showtime on June 27. This reminder was really just an excuse to show you this promotional photo for the show:

Restraints suit Mary Louise-Parker Nancy Botwin, don’t they?

The Good Wife‘s Julianna Margulies and her husband, Keith Lieberthal, have joined the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign. In the video below, the couple advocates strengthening “traditional marriage” by “letting every New Yorker embrace this commitment to the person they love.”

Cate Blanchett will guest star on the Fox animated series The Family Guy in an episode that will air in spring 2012. I hope they make her say something extremely inappropriate.

The inspirational television show of my childhood, Jem, is coming back to TV next month! Jem premieres on the Hub on May 28 with a six-episode marathon. This news is truly, truly, truly outrageous!

Chely Wright‘s dance remix of “Damn Liar” will be featured in this Sunday’s episode of Brothers & Sisters. Check it out!

As we recently reported, Amy Poehler was recognized by Time magazine as one one of the most influential people of 2011. At the Time 100 Gala celebrating her and the other honorees, Poehler gave a speech in which she thanked all the women who take care of her kids and make it possible for her to pursue her career. You can watch the video over at

My pal and vlogger Jennie McNulty (Walking Funny with …) is now a contributor to the “Walking With Walgreens” program. The site will periodically air a “Walking Funny Minute,” featuring Jennie and some of her funny friends. Take a stroll with them! And if you log your miles walked online, you get coupons, discounts and other cool stuff from Walgreens. This is great news, as I’ve always said we need more lesbian representation in drug stores.

If you’re in Los Angeles on May 4, check out the Gays R Us comedy show at The Improv, hosted by Erin Foley and featuring the comedy stylings of Gina Yashere, Fortune Feimster, Ronn Vigh, Bruce Daniels, Shelagh Ratner and Shawn Pelofsky. If you go, I’m 85 percent sure that you will laugh.

Check out Revolver‘s interview with out rocker Otep Shamaya, in which she lists the five famous women she’d most like to seduce. I am willing to start a Kickstarter campaign to pay for the time machine if she’s serious about Sappho!
