Morning Brew – Friday, April 15: Jillian Michaels covers “Shape,” Paige Braddock on the adultness of “Peanuts”

Today is the Day of Silence, a day encouraging students to take a vow to end LGBT bullying in their schools. It’s an initiative from GLSEN, which you can find out more about at

Speaking of GLSEN, the organization are honoring the hosts of The Talk at an upcoming Mailbu event on May 1.

Jillian Michaels is on the cover of Shape magazine this month, and it doesn’t appear you learn too much new about the celebrity trainer, but she sure knows how to work the camera.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes-video from her shoot.

Jessie J told Interview magazine why she wrote the gender-bending tune “Do It Like a Dude,” which was a hit in the UK.

I’ve been surrounded by male egos my whole career and sometimes just wanna go, “Oh, f–k off.” I’m going to make sure that each song is more than just ‘I’m in the club, shaking my booty. I knew “Do It Like A Dude” had to be controversial. I’m an artist, but I’m also a businesswoman, and sometimes you have to play hard.

Speaking of Ms. J, she released a new video yesterday for “Nobody’s Perfect.” It’s very Alice in Wonderland-esque.

Damiana from World of Wonder caught Shay Mitchell and her Pretty Little Liars co-stars on the GLAAD red carpet last week.

Did you hear her say “more girlfriends to come?” Emily, you go girl.

California’s senate has passed a bill that says kids have to learn about gay history in their textbooks. It still has a few hoops to jump through (it must be passed by the state Assembly and signed by Gov. Jerry Brown), but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

One person kiddies should learn about is Gertrude Stein, the out lesbian writer who is the focus of an upcoming exhibit at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. It’s called Seeing Gertrude Stein: Five Stories and has also inspired LGBT events such as plays, talks and a poetry slam. This is a cannot miss exhibit if you live in the Bay Area or will be visiting this summer. Here are some images from the exhibit, featuring Gertie and her partner, Alice B. Toklas.

Our own Jane’s World artist Paige Braddock talked with MTV Geek at Wondercon 2011. In the first video, she talks about working on the legendary Peanuts comics. In the second, she discusses the “adult themes” in Happiness is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown.

Peanuts isn’t about children!? Maybe I need to start reading it again.
