Morning Brew: Tuesday, March 1: Meredith Baxter’s memoir “Untied” comes out, Vanessa Carlton signs with Razor & Tie

Wow, it’s March already. February goes by so fast with its 28 days.

Meredith Baxter’s memoir Untied comes out today, and People magazine will be publishing some excerpts in this week’s issue. Today, they shared that Meredith writes about being abused by ex-husband, David Birney.

It was so sudden and unexpected, I couldn’t tell you which hand hit me, or even how hard. I do recall thinking, “I’d better not get up because he’s going to hit me again.”

Terrible. I hope the memoir has many more uplifting moments, like this tidbit from her publisher’s page:

I remember Sarah asking me, when I’d just begun therapy with her, what I looked for in a man. After a few moments of silent, tense deliberation I had it. “Hair,” I blurted. “He has to have hair.”

She was on The Today Show today, too.

Also on shelves today, Jodi Picoult’s Sing You Home about a lesbian couple fighting a very interesting custody battle. It’s insanely good and I highly recommend it.

Live in Louisville and looking for a new hang? I’d say this place sounds pretty cool! The Courier-Journal featured Third Ave. Cafe this week and general manager Ricky Miller mused that it’s like no other place he knows:

I cannot be worried about how people are going to perceive me. … When I first took this job, I thought people were going to boycott (because of his performing career) and it never happened As a matter of fact, people embraced me more than I ever expected them to. … I remember one day, there was a table of monks in their full regalia, and sitting right next to them was a lesbian couple, and one had yellow hair and one had purple hair, and I thought: Where else on earth are you going to see this?

Well besides Portland, Austin and some parts of New York…

Tabatha Coffey will be on The Doctors today. Tune in – you might learn how something about how your hair is killing you.

In some awesome news, bisexual musician Vanessa Carlton has inked a deal with Razor & Tie Records. Her new album Rabbits on the Run has a release date of June 21. Finally!

Richard Desmond runs the UK’s Channel 5, the channel that will be airing the new lesbian reality series Candy Bar. During a live news interview last night, Desmond was asked if the show was his idea. His response:

Definitely not! But I shall be watching it with, with, er … and watching the viewing figures.

Mhm.

Did you see Lady Gaga’s video for “Born This Way” yet? My favorite part is the group of women surrounding Gaga in a nakedish orgy-type setting. And I mean that in a totally artistic way.

There’s a great piece on the blog The Hooded Utilitarian that focuses on desire between women with no apparent sexual identity. It’s an interview with Sharon Marcus, the author of Between Women: Friendship, Desire, and Marriage in Victorian England and is an in-depth conversation about relationships between women that ranges from the Victorian era she writes about in her book to modern day depictions of lesbianish situations in advertising and fashion spreads. Check it out!
