Your Weekly Women to Listen To: Le Bucherettes, Anbuley, Tori Black and more

You guys, I think I may have outdone myself this week; I’m not going to lie. I don’t know what it is — perhaps the fact that the weather is going to be nice enough for me to ride my bike to work tomorrow? Or that Trish Bendix and Jamie Murnane are coming over to my place tonight for an outrageous Gayme Night? Whatever it is, is really buttering up my mood and this list of ten female-fronted acts is one of my favorites so far. I can’t contain myself any longer, check them out yourself.

File Under: R&B, neo-soul, electronic, beautiful

From: England

For Fans Of: Bonobo (who she has collaborated with), Sade, India Arie, Avery Sunshine, Tricky’s Mixed Race, bubble baths, satin sheets, Kama Sutra

File Under: Melodramatic piano pop, theatrical

From: NYC via LA

For Fans Of: Putting smiles on faces, making mix tapes, 500 Days of Summer, A Fine Frenzy, Sarah Blasko, Britta Persson Bous: Katie’s new album, Lamplight comes out next week so we’ll have some great new tunes to look forward to, but not have to wait too long for.

File Under: My new favorite band, hard rocking, sexy, political punk rockers with an ever-so-slight slight electronic slant.

From: Mexico

For Fans Of: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Girl in a Coma, breathing air, fierceness in your face (and your ears), sweating, not wanting the concert to be over

Bonus: I’m actually nervous about this bonus, but in the best kind of “peeing my pants” way — I’ll be interviewing lead singer Teri Gender Bender for AfterEllen.com today!

File Under: Melodic alternative rock balladry, emotive

From: Edinburgh

For Fans Of: A stripped down xx, Keane, Sigur Ros, dark forests, keeping a diary, candles as a light source

Bonus: The band will be playing the very queer GoGo Festival in June alongside Uh Huh Her, Heather Peace, The Locals and more. I wish I were going to be in the UK for this one!

File Under: Sweet jazzy folk pop with a voice as fresh as a Florida orange plucked off a tree.

From: Malaysia

For Fans Of: Coeur de Pirate, Sara Valenzuela, Feist, warm sunshine on your face, Care Bears, hugs, popcscicles

Bonus: Yuna is letting her fans help write some of the lyrics to one of her songs. You can go to her Facebook page and help a sister out while feeling like you’ve made a contribution to the music world!

File Under: Rocking singer/songwriter with one of the most easily recognizable voices out there.

From: Arizona

For Fans Of: Long draped clothing, Lilith Fair, velvet, dirty martinis, Pat Benetar, Jefferson Airplane, Heart, Melissa Ethridge, singing along to songs at the top of your voice in your car or in the shower

Bonus: Nicks will soon start touring the US and Canada with my love, Rod Stewart and the single “Secret Love” from her upcoming album, In Your Dreams, was just released last week so check it out.

File Under: Garage punk, non-electro-clash, call and response

From: Brooklyn

For Fans Of: Crystal Castles — Electro + crash cymbols, early (“Art Star” era) Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bikini Kill, fishnets torn at the thigh, liquid eyeliner, tight denim jackets, Miller High Life

Bonus: The band is letting you name your own price to purchase their 4-song EP.

File Under: Robyn 2.0 even down to the haircut and cute dancing. I’d be mad if I didn’t like her so much. (Call me)

From: Sweden

For Fans Of: Robyn (like seriously, it’s a little ridic), I was going to legit say, “That chick who sings ‘Cry for You'” but it’s HER!, Leona Lewis, Cascada, dancefloors at gay male clubs, Cathy Dennis

Bonus: Apparently this multi-talented 24 year-old not only sings and dances, she designs the clothing she wears onstage during her concerts. Sexy.

File Under: Electro-Afro-beat, dub, beat-tronica

From: Austria but inspired by her roots in Ghana

For Fans Of: Major Lazer, M.I.A., Afrika Bambaataa, double dutch, hand claps, Skittles, Bonjay, Cirque du Soleil

Bonus: You can stream and download her single, “Tsakemo.”

File Under: Electro-punk, new wave, queer-wave

From: California

For Fans Of: Deluka, chimichangas, New Order, The L Word, grommet belts, choppy haircuts with angled bangs, skinny jeans

Bonus: They are the cute and gay and friends of AfterEllen.com reader Chelsi!

That’s it for this week; I hope you enjoy these ladies as much as I do. As always, feel free to hit me up with suggestions, comments, criticism and money!
