Lucy Lawless is joining the cast of No Ordinary Family for at least five episodes. Lucy + Julie Benz + lesbian writer Ali Adler = I’m getting hopeful for something gay. And since Lucy is playing “a powerful woman,” and friend to the “Powell clan” (Julie’s character’s family), it could be possible. (But probably not.)
Speaking of lesbianish guest stars, Michelle Krusiec of Saving Face will be appearing on Community in March. That show could definitely use a lesbian.
A new web series called Coming Out in the 1950s has teens interviewing elderly LGBT individuals about what it was like for them to live openly during a time when it was still illegal to be gay in most states. Here’s the first episode, which includes the legendary Phyllis Lyon.

Two Juliets is a short film well worth watching. It’s about two girls that fall for each other, but are instructed to kill one another by their own mothers.
I love that the idea isn’t they can’t be together because they’re lesbians. It’s like someone actually tried to use the Romeo and Juliet lesbian storyline in a fresh new way. Thankfully.
Movieline.com didn’t love My Idiot Brother, and they also think it was a little homophobic and inaccurate. They wrote:
…whoever decided that Rashida Jones would look like a butch lesbian with man-shirts, dorky glasses, and a ponytail clearly didn’t bother to do any research.
Yikes, well I don’t know if she’s supposed to be butch, but Rashida said she was the one who came up with her character’s look and that she did a lot of research. Guess it didn’t come across, at least to this reviewer.
After the murder of Uganda gay activist David Kato, out lesbian Brenda Namigadde is pleading with the UK not to deport her back to her home country, fearing she could be killed. The Home Office is still reviewing her submission, but have decided twice already to send her back to Uganda.
This year’s 2011 Battle of the Lesbian Web Series at the Dinah will feature women from some shows you love, including Anyone But Me, Cowgirl Up, Girl/Girl Scene, Girltrash, The Lovers and Friends Show, The Real Girls Guide to Everything Else, Venice and more. It’s sponsored by OneMoreLesbian.com and will pit the stars of these series against one another in fun competition on the main stage, where all the drunk lesbians in bikinis can watch. Congrats to out judge Sabrina McKenna for being appointed to Hawaii’s State Supreme Court and out lesbian Roberta Achtenberg for being chosen by the president to serve on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Judge McKenna told an interviewer:
Whether you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, be yourself. Be honest with yourself, even if people reject you, just do your best and anything is possible if you work hard and try hard.
I’m waiting for the ex-gay camps to twist her words into thinking she said “If you’re gay, try hard and you can be anything you want to be — so why not try your hardest to be straight!?”
