Morning Brew – Thursday, January 27: Uh Huh Her name their new album, first look at our lesbian Housewife from Orange County

Happy Thursday!

The Real Housewives of Orange County will premiere its sixth season March 6, but we have our first official photos and video from Bravo. Why do you care? Because we have our first real lesbian housewife on this season. (Sorry Danielle Staub and Kim Zolciak!)

Out fitness trainer Fernanda Rocha has joined the cast, but blink and you’ll miss her in the video on Bravo.tv. She must not have the catty drama that the rest of them do. (Here’s hoping.)

I feel obliged to tell you that Kendra Wilkinson’s lesbian sex tape has been unearthed and is going to be sold to the highest bidder (aka porn distributor), despite her persistent attempts to stop it. It was filmed by her then-boyfriend, and the other woman was her friend, Taryn Ryan. I’m pretty sure this is just a straight girl thing. I have managed to be in the same room with my girl friends and a camera and not have 45-minutes of sex with them, just because.

The new London production of The Children’s Hour starring Keira Knightley and Elisabeth Moss is getting rave reviews. Are you surprised? I’d be willing to give it two thumbs up based on casting alone.

Belmont University infamously (and allegedly) fired their women’s soccer coach, Lisa Howe, a few months ago because she was a lesbian. The school is now going to include sexual orientation in their toleration policy so that something like this can never happen again – or if it does, they will be in even more hot water than they were when they claimed their firing of Lisa was not because she was gay. Shortly after this announcement, Lisa Howe released this statement:

I am thrilled for the Belmont University community. This is a great victory for the values of inclusion, human dignity, and respect. I am incredibly proud of the Belmont faculty and students for pushing for this policy. I am also grateful to the Belmont board for recognizing that being gay and being Christian are not mutually exclusive. This is a landmark day.

Now begins the task for Belmont University leaders to make sure that acceptance of LGBT students and staff is not just a written policy but is also reflected in practice, attitude, and behavior. A written policy is the beginning of forming a truly inclusive atmosphere on campus. It is especially important that LGBT students and staff feel safe in being open and honest about their identities and have confidence that they will be treated fairly and with respect. Anything short of this would mean the new policy is merely ink on a page.

It’s a good thing they are wising up, but sad that Lisa had to go through the ringer before it could happen.

Ally Kelly Osbourne is speaking out against the corrective rape of lesbians in South Africa. She’s taking to her Twitter to ask fans to sign a petition that is campaigning to make the act illegal. (Kind of wild it’s not already.)

Alan Cumming is openly queer and he is a working actor. In fact, he plays straight on The Good Wife, and quite convincingly. So of course he takes issue with other actors who say being closeted is smarter. He told The Guardian:

It’s not about your work… It’s about how you exist as a person in the world, and the idea that your work is more important than you as a person is a horrible, horrible message. I always think about a little gay boy in Wisconsin or a little lesbian in Arkansas seeing someone like me, and if I cannot be open in my life, how on earth can they? Anyway, it’s an academic question: how can you know [that coming out affects your career]? Some people get less work than others, and it has nothing to do with sexuality.

Hear that, little lesbian in Arkansas? Be you, do you, be out.

The Talk has been renewed by CBS for a second season. Are any of you watching?

Kate Walsh is coming back to Grey’s Anatomy on March 31. TVline thinks it might have something to do with Callie’s pregnancy.

Uh Huh Her has announced the name of their upcoming album. It’ll be called Nocturnes and will release late this spring, accompanied by a U.S. tour.

JD Samson talked with Interview magazine about MEN’s debut album (out Feb. 1!) and one of my favorite exchanges is about the lyrical content of their first single, “Off Our Backs.”

Interview: The chorus, “I’m a tease, I’m flippin’, can’t you see”-you guys have said it can be interpreted sexually, in which the top becomes the bottom and vice versa, or in a sociopolitical way.

JD Samson: Exactly. And that’s just kind of our language, also, in everyday life. You know, we’re always saying, “Oh my God, you totally got topped by that toll worker.” That’s just kind of how we think of things.

So nice to know I’m not alone.
