Morning Brew – Thursday, August 19: Catherine McNeil takes over Australian “Vogue,” Noomi Rapace could be up for an Oscar

Morning!

AfterEllen.com contributor Lindsey Byrnes wrote a piece on bud Ariel Schrag for art mag Juxtapoz, which included a photo from her high school prom where she took a girl as her date.

Ariel’s newest gig is writing for the second season of the HBO show How to Make it in America. I’m hoping that as the resident lesbian on staff, she’ll do something fun with star Shannyn Sossamon. You know what I’m talking about, Ariel.

Blastr.com has compiled a list of “20 Gay Characters We Love From Sci-Fi.” There’s the usual suspects (Tara, Willow, Xena, Camille Wray) but then there’s some inspired choices: Chiana (Farscape), Inara Serra (Firefly), Susan Ivanova (Babylon 5) and Jadzia Dax (Deep Space Nine).

Out model Catherine McNeil is on the cover of Vogue Australia‘s September issue. Followers of fashion will know that the September issues of style mags are their biggest all year, as they roll out all the best fall looks. Catherine joins Freja Beha Erichsen on Vogue UK and Korean Vogue as the out women on September covers. Vogue is embracing the gay lady – I love it.

She poses for a “Pretty Baby” photospread, rocking the rockabilly look and another spread called “A Fine Romance.”

You can watch behind-the-scenes videos of Cat in action on their website.

Melissa Etheridge is writing the introduction to a new book by Salman Ahmad called Rock And Roll Jihad. The two met in 2007 at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert and co-wrote a song for her Christmas album a few years ago.

Venice the Web Series has made their Season 2 trailer available. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is:

Everything you hoped for? More girl kissing needed? Agreed.

If you’re a huge fan of Noomi Rapace, then you’ll be happy to know that she’s getting a ton of offers because of the success of her starring role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Deadline.com reports that she’s being courted for roles in Sherlock Homes 2 and Mission Impossible 4. Even better? She’s in talks to be up for the Best Actress Oscar. Wouldn’t that be phenomenal? She deserves it.

FYI, if you want more Noomi now, I strongly suggest finding a copy of Daisy Diamond where she gets it on with actress Trine Dyrholm – with a strap-on.

Anyone But Me creator Susan Miller let us know that a “passionate fan” of the show is going to donate $1000 to funding season 3 if their total can be matched by other donations in the next 24 hours. Go to anyonebutmeseries.com if you want to contribute.

Talk to you tomorrow!
