Morning Brew – Friday, August 6: Queen Latifah photographed hugging suspected girlfriend, Rosie gets her own new show

It’s Friday! How you doing?

If you’ve been spending sleepless nights tossing and turning, unable to get your mind off of the question, “Is Queen Latifah gay or not?” I present you with something that the press are running wild with. The Queen and her alleged girlfriend Jeanette Jenkins were photographed together in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France yesterday.

Rest assured, she might not be able to say the L word yet.

AfterEllen reader Emily pointed me in the direction of this new Katy Perry video clip for her new single “Teenage Dream.” There is a very tiny almost-kiss between two girls.

The full video will debut on August 10, so we’ll have to wait and see if there’s any more lady lip locking.

Reader MeL tipped us off to a lesbian character on the German soap Mord mit Aussicht – and she’s a policewoman.

Bärbe seems to be falling for Mathilde, a hot blonde carpenter. Now she’s questioning her sexuality and it looks like she won’t have to wait too long for an answer!

It was announced yesterday that Rosie O’Donnell is returning to television. She’ll be hosting a “daytime one-hour daily show based in New York” on Oprah Winfrey‘s new OWN network. From the press release:

“Rosie is an undeniable talent who has captivated TV audiences for nearly 20 years,” said Oprah Winfrey. “She’s a true original, who brings her authentic voice, dynamic energy and pure passion to everything she does.”

“It’s an honor and a privilege to work with Oprah Winfrey on her network,” said Rosie O’Donnell. “I’m excited to be back on daytime television.”

Speaking of the network, one of their new shows filming in Chicago is looking for lesbian couples that are interested in improving their intimacy and sex life. If you’re interested, send me a note!

While we’re still waiting to see who will play Lisbeth Salander in the American adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, two other casting announcements have been made. Daniel Craig will play journalist Mikael Blomkvist and Robin Wright is in talks to play his lover, Erika Berger. I like how the cast is shaping up so far – how much longer will they make us wait?

On August 4th when Proposition 8’s ruling was announced, Bridget McManus was in Cologne, Germany covering the Gay Games and attending a Steffi List concert. Steffi was a finalist of Stefan sucht den (Super-Grand-Prix-Star, a talent search similar to American Idol) and has gained greater popularity and a loyal female following ever since. During Steffi’s concert Bridget climbed on stage and announced to an audience full of lesbians/bisexual women from all around the world that a federal judge struck down California’s ban on same-sex marriage. Check out the clip below.

On this week’s episode of Psych (“Chivalry is not Dead… But Someone Is”), a lesbian is suspected of murder. She’s one of those secret lesbians, too – one that was in love with her best friend and got crazy when she didn’t want to be with her so she poisoned her and her male lovers. Jean Smart played the widow who was into dating younger men.

Eventually TV writers will realize that the “It was a woman!” reveal is really old and not so surprising anymore.

You may have noticed that we haven’t published an Afternoon Delight column this week. That’s because Heather Hogan will instead be focusing on some new projects for the site, including a weekly column debuting on August 18. Don’t worry – she’ll still be writing recaps and blog posts in the meantime.

Have a great weekend! XO.
