Best, Lesbian. Week. Ever. (March 30, 2007)

At the New York edition of the GLAAD awards this week, there were lots of lesbian shows/people/media outlets nominated, but the gay male or co-ed LGBT nominees won in every category but two (All My Children, for Best Daytime Drama, and Oprah’s “Gay Wives” episode for Outstanding Talk Show Episode). So basically, same story, different year.

But GLAAD did honor out comedian Kate Clinton with a special award, presented by Cynthia Nixon, and there were lots of lesbians in attendance, including Rosie and Kelli O’Donnell, Jackie Warner, Billie Jean King, Heather Matarazzo and Judy Gold, as well as some lesbian favorites such as Eden Riegel, Julianne Moore, Dana Delany and Stephanie March. Jennifer Hudson and Patti LaBelle (who from the press photos, appear to be the only women of color at the event) also staged an impromptu performance, and Jackie Warner unexpectedly dropped to the floor onstage and did 20 one-handed push-ups before bench-pressing Judy Gold. OK, not really, but that would’ve been fun to see!

Here are some photos from the event:

Also present? Melrose from last season of America’s Next Top Model, and Hillary Duff. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.

There might not be any lesbians on network TV right now, but we’ve got more coming on cable: Bravo’s latest reality series, Shear Genius, in which “a group of talented hairstylists from around the world will literally go head-to-head in creative challenges that require more than just talent with a comb and scissors,” includes two openly gay women among the contenders: Daisy, a top stylist and salon owner in Miami, and Tabatha, the owner of Industrie Hair Gurus in Ridgewood, New Jersey. The series debuts on April 11th.

Great about the lesbian stylists, but I’m more excited to see Jaclyn Smith (who hosts) on TV again! She was my favorite Angel growing up. Judging from these comments, I’m not her only lesbian fan. Not that I’d throw Kris or Jill out of bed for talking to a mysterious man over a voice-box — and Sabrina’s intelligence was a definite plus — but really, who can compete with Kelly’s hair?
