THIS JUST IN: KALINDA WILL FINALLY GIVE US AN ANSWER ON THE GOOD WIFE SEASON FINALE

We’ve been waiting for The Good Wife to give us more on character Kalinda’s sexuality since they first hinted she might be bisexual. It appears we’ll finally get an answer or sorts in the season finale on May 25. At a panel held Wednesday evening at New York’s Paley Center, the cast gave some spoilers.

EW.com reported that Archie Panjabi, who plays Kalinda, a tough leather-wearing private investigator, received the biggest applause. It’s no secret she’s a well-liked character – and the show itself has gotten rave reviews. The site notes:

Panjabi said the season finale will finally give an answer to the question of Kalinda’s sexual preference. She also admitted that she was nervous to play a character that manipulated men, but that she’s quite comfortable with it now.

The last hint of any attraction to women from Kalinda was when she was having a dinner meeting with an agent that wanted her to come work for the CIA. Kalinda, however, declined, as she’s happy to work with Alicia, played by Julianna Margulies.

But we’ve been waiting for an answer on Kalinda’s supposed bisexuality from the beginning, and with our current queer female count on television dropping by the episode (Janis Hawk slept with a man on Flashforward, Tara realized Buck was bedding Pammy and had to break her heart on United States of Tara, and Adrianna is headed back to boys on 90210), she couldn’t come out at a better time.

The Good Wife is one of CBS’ highest rated shows and Kalinda is arguably its most-loved character. If she were to come out, we’d have a rare shining example of a successful, beautiful, fashionable bisexual woman on television. She’s also Indian, which would makes her the second queer woman of color character (next to Grey’s Anatomy’s Callie)on primetime television.

We’ll have to wait until the end of May to find out if Kalinda is bisexual. But even if she ends up being straight, she’ll still be a great character – just not the kind who could help with our queer visibility problem on network TV.

WORKING THE POLL: EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT … ON MAY 5

At the GLAAD Media Awards last weekend, publicist Howard Bragman told reporters that he’s going to help a celebrity publicly come out on May 5. Bragman, who has aided celebrities like Sheryl Swoopes, Meredith Baxter, Mitchell Anderson, Amanda Bearse, Dick Sargent and John Amaechi in their public coming out processes, is offering his services to this still unnamed star as well. The celebrity is said to already be booked for a People magazine exclusive and appearances on some high-profile talk shows, including The View.

With Bragman’s announcement came a flurry of speculation as to which star might be taking the big step, and there were plenty of candidates mentioned. Of course, we know that you probably have your own theories as well.

But in the interest of keeping things simple (and keeping those who are potentially litigious at bay), we’ll just ask if you think the big celebrity coming out on May 5 will be a man or a woman.

<a href=”http://answers.polldaddy.com/poll/3096084/”>Who do you hope will be making a big announcement on May 5?</a><span style=”font-size:9px;”><a href=”http://polldaddy.com/features-surveys/”>Market Research</a></span>

In our poll last week, we asked which (theoretical) lesbian film sequel you’d most like to see. You picked Bound 2: Bound and Gagged. We’re sure your choice had nothing to do with the title of the movie.

LESBIAN VIDEO CLIP OF THE WEEK

Did you miss Club Skirts’ The Dinah on Last Call with Carson Daly? See if you can find yourself in the footage. We spotted a few of the usual suspects…

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

Lesbian pulp novelist Monica Nolan’s new book, Bobby Blanchard: Lesbian Gym Teacher, is her third Sapphic novel in the vein of ’50s style pulp fiction, and she told The Washington City Paper that lesbians love her stuff because we’re not afraid to poke fun at our own stereotypes.

Eréndira Ibarra, who plays lesbian Mariana Torres on the new Mexican television show Las Aparicio, recently told us a bit more about the show, her character, and how her LGBTQ friends and family inspire and inform her performance.

Ky Dickens’s documentary Fish Out of Water, which debunks Bible myths about homosexuality, is available on DVD this week and you can send it anonymously to family (or foes).

Iron Chef Cat Cora is co-sponsoring a gay-friendly prom in Mississippi next month.

This year’s Coachella lineup featured performances from the Gossip, Sia, The xx, and others who left our newest writer, Lindsey Byrnes, with the impression that the festival just gets more queer every year.

In a new interview with Out, reality show star Tila Tequila talks about her new single, “I Love the DJ” and how she’s a gay icon. She also claims to have influenced Ellen DeGeneres‘s coming out. Hey, we didn’t say it, she did.

Emily Rios, who plays Maria, lesbian on Men of a Certain Age, has been cast as Epyck, a “goth rebel girl” on Friday Night Lights.

Have you seen the pics of Heather Graham getting, uh, close with Jaime Winstone in Boogie Woogie? Some of the photos are NSFW, which will probably entice you even more.

China’s lesbian magazine Les Plus has made its return after a 10-month hiatus.

Bollywood star and LGBT ally Celina Jaitley told reporters that she is looking at a script right now that would have her playing a lesbian. She said it’s not Indian, but that she hopes it works out. You might remember Celina supporting the relaunch of India’s only gay magazine, Bombay Dost last year.

Robert Rodriguez‘s upcoming film Machete stars Michelle Rodriguez and Lindsay Lohan and has a release date of Sept. 30. Michelle plays “a saucy meat cleaver-wielding taco slinger named Luz” and Lindsay is April, “a socialite with a penchant for guns.”

We have lots of coverage of the recent GLAAD media awards in Los Angeles, including interviews with Wanda Sykes and Constance McMillen and some of the cast of The Real L Word: Los Angeles, video of Sykes’s acceptance speech for her award, and video of comics Fortune Feimster and Daniel Leary interviewing celebs (Cat Cora, Jane Lynch, Adam Lambert and others) on the red carpet.

Filmmakers Amelia Tovey and Molly Landreth are setting out to capture the essence of queer America in their new multimedia project Embodiment. Once it becomes fully funded through donations, all of the video footage, photos and project details will be posted on Embodimentusa.com – fully accessible (to anyone with an internet connection) and for free.

If you have the Independent Film Channel, you can watch the new lesbian film Eloise’s Lover on demand.

Our Blog Editor Trish Bendix and “New Music Tuesday” blogger Hornito have a podcast, Chick Habit, in which they talk about gay women in music and play their tunes. They just posted their fourth episode and new videos from Sia and An Horse.

We’ll soon be launching a new dating and relationships column on the site, and would love your input. Got a question or topic you’d like to see discussed? Send it on over to [email protected] and we’ll see that our guru gets it.
