Good morning! Happy Friday! First, I’d like to express my sadness over the passing of Nelson Mandela. His influence over the ending of apartheid in 1994 helped to make South Africa the first country in the world to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation. He was a leader who believed in true equality, and that included people like us.
Rest in peace, Nelson. Both Dianna Agron and Kristin Chenoweth are coming back for Glee’s 100th episode. You know you are going to watch that one! Congrats to Orange is the New Black for its Writers Guild Award nominations. The Netflix show is up for Best Comedy Series, New Series, and Episodic Comedy (for two different episodes!). Other shows with lesbian characters nominated include The Good Wife, Ray Donovan, Masters of Sex, Saturday Night Live and Portlandia. Bridget McManus sent me this trailer because she clearly is super excited about this movie. Paz de la Huerta plays a stalkery lesbian nurse in Nurse: 3D. I’m so in. It opens February 7.
Michelle Chamuel wants you to sing with her.
Sara Quin told NME she thinks Miley Cyrus is this generation’s new Madonna. Lady Gaga would not agree. Speaking of Miley, Snooki thinks “she’s really hot.” If you loved The Slope like I did, you’ll be psyched to know that one of its writers/stars Desiree Akhavan is premiering her debut feature film, Appropriate Behavior, at Sundance. Here’s the description:
Congrats to Desi and I can’t wait to see this. Sweden is home to Europe’s first-ever LGBT retirement housing. Gotta love those Swedes. Italian reader Lisa sent in this great trip. Actress Rosalinda Celentano has come out about her relationship with actress Simona Borrioni in a very big way. The couple posed for a spread in Vanity Fair Italy and Rosalinda shared how coming out to her parents at 18 was difficult experience (this is translated, FYI):
Rosalinda’s parents are both famous in Italy, too, which surely makes things a little more difficult. But it sounds like things are better now, and she is very happily in love with Simona.
