Morning Brew – “Orphan Black” producers talk Cosima in Season 2

Good morning! Check out the first new photo from Orphan Black Season 2. Looks like Sarah enjoys topping Rachel. The producers also had a few things to say about Cosima.

JOHN FAWCETT: Plus, I also think one of the big things we’re going to have to deal with in season 2, which is finding its own twists and turns, is Cosima’s illness. And that is a very pressing bit of drama that is not just straight ahead. It’s got a lot of mystery to it. It’s got a lot of twists and turns to it and it is thematically a big part of season 2 also. GRAEME MANSON: It’s a genetic mystery. It’s a genetic biological mystery and it feeds into some of our body horror and it feeds into our science mystery.

Do. Not. Kill. Her. OK. Thanks. Out director Francesca Gregorini attended the premiere of her new film Emanuel and the Fishes. Stars Jessica Biel and Kaya Scodelario were in attendance, as well as Rooney Mara, who was in Francesca’s last film, Tanner Hall.

Speaking of directors, Jodie Foster will helm an episode of House of Cards next season. Queer quartet Wishbeard is profiled in The Seattle Stranger this week and they give some real talk on being called “ladies” and how they feel about their gender identities as it relates to the band. Says Brighton Keynoer:

“Personally, I know this might come as a shock, but I have never identified as a lesbian. People see me and automatically think “butch lesbian.” But that’s a very incomplete reading. Gender identities and sexuality are very personal and complicated. That’s why the term queer feels better. It sort of allows you the freedom to just be who you are, do what you want, and not give a fuck. Which is the goal as far as I’m concerned.”

p.s. they’re all super hot.

A trailer has been released for Anna Paquin’s new film, Free Ride.

Taissa Farmiga says the threesome scene she shared with real life couple Emma Roberts and Evan Peters on American Horror Story: Coven could have been more explicit.

It was definitely a little odd, but I think we were just laughing about how crazy it was. I think we just wanted it to be done. Luckily, we went with “the implied version,” and we were all happy about that. You get so many drafts of the scripts; I really don’t know what the first version was. But in the end, I think what we did was good enough [laughs]. Emma and Evan are so sweet and so cute together! It was really totally fine, but if you just think about the situation, it’s completely odd.

Seems like her power of killing people with sex doesn’t work so well on the undead! Toni Braxton really wants to play a lesbian on TV or film. She’d really love to appear on one show, specifically:

“I’m hoping to be on Orange Is the New Black. That’s my favorite show. I’m hoping… we’ll see. I told you I wanted to be a lesbian… I still want that.”

Speaking of OITNB, the show’s creator Jenji Kohan is working on a new show at HBO that I’m already excited about. The Hollywood Reporter writes:

The untitled Salem period drama explores the circumstances surrounding one of the most compelling chapters in American history, when intolerance and repression set neighbor against neighbor and led a town to mass hysteria.

More lesbian witches please! I hear Toni Braxton is available. Missy Higgins is raising money for a charity run she’s participating in this weekend. Donate if you can! No shock here: Blue is the Warmest Color got top honors (?) from Mr. Skin this year for Top Nude Scene. Madeleine Olnek’s The Foxy Merkins will premiere at Sundance this January! The official description:

Two lesbian hookers work the streets of New York. One is a down-on-her-luck newbie; the other is a beautiful – and straight – grifter who’s an expert on picking up women. Together they face bargain-hunting housewives, double-dealing conservative women, and each other in this prostitute buddy comedy.

Gay prostitutes are all the rage! Witches and hookers. I’m good with it!
