Morning Brew – Ellen goes into “Orange is the New Black”

Good morning!

In case you have yet to learn all the words to Naya Rivera‘s single “Sorry,” she’s released a helpful lyrics video so you can sing along.

Showtime has released the Masters of Sex pilot online so you can watch it ahead of its premiere. ICYMI, Analeigh Ashford plays a lesbian prostitute in the first three episodes.

Bisexual UK reality star Jaime-Leigh Paley is back on TV in series two of The Magaluf Weekender.

Filmmaker Ethan Coen (of the Coen Brothers) debuted his play Women or Nothing in New York this week and it’s about “a middle-aged lesbian couple, Gretchen and Laura, and the elaborate lengths to which they go to conceive a child naturally.” I haven’t read a review by an actual lesbian yet, but the Broadway World writer has this to say after Ethan referred to himself as a “gentleman” in an interview:

But would a gentleman write a play about a lesbian couple planning to trick a man out of his sperm? … Students of logic – or just people who live in an American city in 2013 – might at this point have a few questions: 1. Would a lesbian couple really have no male friend they could simply ask to be a willing partner, rather than having to trick somebody? And why do they have to trick Chuck anyway? 2. Why would they assume that one sexual encounter would be enough to assure that Laura would get pregnant?

Uh oh.

I never thought I’d see the day a modern-day women’s studies scholar was being accused of hating lesbians, but that’s exactly what’s happening right now at Rutgers.

Two and a Half Men showrunner Jim Patterson gave EW some scoop on Amber Tamblyn‘s lesbian character, Jenny:

“We thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if she was just like her father.’ She’s a fun, hard-partying girl who loves everything her father did – including women – and has the same kind of confidence her father had. It brings the debauchery back to the show from when Charlie [Sheen] was on it. She’s going to turn their lives upside down a little bit. She’s proud of who she is and completely confident in who she is. She’s also looking to have fun. She’s a 25 and not looking to settle down in any way. Amber is amazing. We saw a ton of girls and she blew us away. This is the first time she’s done a sitcom role and it’s like she’s done it her whole life.”

The new season premieres September 26 on CBS.

Ellen loves Orange is the New Black so much she decided to get in on it.

BTW the Emmys are this Sunday and we’ll be live tweeting. Got a great hashtag idea? Let us know!
