Morning Brew – Shay Mitchell says tonight’s “PLL” is one of her favorites

Good morning!

AE contributor Desiree Akhavan has been busy working on her feature film Appropriate Behavior. Out magazine wrote about the new project, which I can’t wait to see. It’s very lesbian. Duh.

Rizzoli & Isles will be syndicated, which means you can watch it all over again.

The Huffington Post interviewed Under the Dome‘s lesbian couple aka Aisha Hinds and Samantha Mathis. It gives a ton of great background on their characters. Here’s Samantha on their relationship as married women:

They love each other, but they’re a married couple and they’re having some tensions. Throw them into these extraordinary circumstances and where we go from there will be really interesting. I love that about Stephen King. He is such a smart writer and this is the third time I’ve worked on one of his [shows], and I just love that … he really does create flawed, human people, but he throws them into extraordinary circumstances and then you get to see if they’re going to sink or swim. You get to see their humanity. They get to see their own humanity, and oftentimes, see things about themselves that they really don’t like.
I enjoyed last night’s episode. Thank god Alice (Samantha) knows her way around a hospital.

Check out the trailer for PBS’s American Masters: Billie Jean King, premiering September 10.

Netflix has released a few clips from Orange is the New Black, possibly to entice those of you who still haven’t watched it. Watch Crazy Eyes recite a poem to Chapman in this one.

Tig Notaro posted this photo on her Facebook the other day with the caption “we fell in love with our friendship all over again last night.” Sarah Silvmeran + Tig 4-eva.

TVFanatic talked to Shay Mitchell about Emily’s future on PLL and it sounds like she doesn’t think Marlene King would change much about her character, like she’ll never be a cheerleader.

Here she is on Paily:

I hope so. I mean, I think that because they took swimming away, they should at least have Emily have a girlfriend, someone she cares about. We have a lot of scenes coming up with Emily and Paige. And it’s always a little bit rocky as is everything in Rosewood, but it is fun. I get to work with Lindsey [Shaw, who plays Paige] a lot and I absolutely love that. So we will be seeing them down the road in this season.

Every time I try and explain this season I keep thinking about what’s to come next and what you guys haven’t seen and I’m like “O my god!” Like [the next] episode is probably one of my favorite episodes for a certain reason that I’m not going to tell you. I can’t. I don’t know how they’re doing it honestly. It’s just insane. After you see this episode, we’ll have to have a conversation again and then you can be like “Oh my god!”
