Morning Brew – Fri. Feb. 22: Po and Dice talk marriage on “La La’s Full Court Life,” Liz Carmouche fights the good fight

Good morning, Brewbies. If you’re going to be in the Philly area this weekend, join Trish Bendix, Dana Piccoli, and Marcie Bianco at Tavern on Camac from 9-11 p.m. for a blogger meet-up after the LGBT Media Conference.

Yesterday, Trish gave you a look at our favorite Little Liars on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly. How about a look inside the issue this morning?

Looks like EW is Team Sparia too.

Our good friend Jim Halterman interviewed Scandal‘s Katie Lowe and asked her whether or not she thinks Quinn should come out as a gay lady.

What does Quinn need in her life in the romantic sense? Is it Huck? A new guy? Becoming a lesbian, maybe?

I mean, seriously! Lesbian is a good option! I think that that is not her focus at this point. I think she is still trying to find where she belongs and the fact that she can’t go home…losing Jesse and all of it coming back up again so much so with Hollis and she just figured out and put the pieces together of everything that happened. I don’t think she’s feeling extraordinarily sexy. We are at a 10-month jump ahead and in Shondaland anything is possible so who knows? I could be taking my clothes off next week!

Frankly, I’m still holding out hope that Kerry Washington‘s character will go gay.

VH1’s La La’s Full Court Life will tackle marriage equality in an upcoming episode. In this exclusive clip La La discusses the topic of same-sex marriage with her two lesbian best friends, Po and Dice, neither of whom believe in any kind of marriage. .

(Unfortunately, the exclusive clip VH1 gave us is set to autoplay and we can’t shut it off internally. So if you don’t want to watch it, just hit the “pause” button on the player and keep reading The Brew!)

Po and Dice want Kerry Washington’s Scandal character to be gay too! The La La’s Full Court Life gay wedding episode airs Monday, Feb 25 at 10 pm ET/PT.

Liz Carmouche is continuing to fight the good fight for equality leading up to her MMA match against champion Ronda Rousey. In this clip, Carmouche talks a little more about being the first openly gay UFC fighter, and Dana White lends his vocal support.

An Indiana special education teacher who compared gay students to students with developmental disabilities – “It’s the same thing with my special-needs kids. I think God puts everyone in our lives for a reason” – has been placed on administrative leave, but not because the school board finds her remarks offensive. After Diana Medley‘s comments made national news, she and school administrators received so much blowback from the press and LGBT allies, they put her on leave for “the safety and security of everyone in our buildings.” (Maybe they got scared of the Lesbian Blogger Community after watching Glee?)

Episode three of BBC’s giant science experiment, The Year of Making Love, featured a bisexual woman called Alex. She was matched up with a woman named Tash and sparks (the good kind!) flew immediately. Unfortunately, their love was not meant to be, as Tash has now moved back to Australia. But DIVA caught up with Alex to chat about her experience on the show.

How’s this for bizarre? Laura Bush, Colin Powell, and Dick Cheney have teamed up for a marriage equality advocacy ad. Well, kind of. According to Gawker:

An advertisement supporting same-sex marriage used a clip of Laura Bush without her permission, and she is very upset. The soundbite captured by Respect for Marriage Coalition is from a 2010 interview on CNN’s Larry King Live, where Mrs. Bush said, “When couples are committed they ought to have, I think, the same rights that everyone has.” Bush’s spokeswoman, Anne MacDonald, has stated the former First Lady “did not approve of her inclusion in this advertisement nor is she associated with the group that made the ad in any way.”

Here is the ad:
