Morning Brew – Tues. Sept. 25: Teri Polo and Sherri Saum to play J.Lo’s lesbian moms, Corin Tucker on being outed in the ’90s

Good morning!

ABC Family has cast their lesbian moms for Jennifer Lopez’s new pilot, The Fosters. Teri Polo (Meet the Parents) and Sherri Saum (In Treatment). From the press release:

The Fosters tells the story of Stef and Lena Foster, a mixed race couple who are raising a biological son, along with several adopted children. When Lena decides to take in Callie, a troubled teen with an abusive past, Callie’s disruptive ways threaten to turn the Fosters lives upside down. Polo will portray Stef Foster, a tough but kind police officer who is not eager to add to their already large brood, but soon realizes her family may be Callie’s best hope for a better life. Saum will portray Lena Foster, an altruistic school principal, who is determined to save as many kids as she can and agrees to take in Callie without Stef’s knowledge.

I always liked Teri in the Fockers movies so I think this could shape up to be watchable. Time will tell!

One of my favorite culture critics, June Thomas, talked about lesbians on TV over at Think Progress. I really would have loved to hear her thoughts on The Real L Word though she said she wouldn’t get into it! Instead she talks about The New Normal, Go On and Chicago Fire.

Speaking of Go On, out comic Erin Foley will make an appearance on the NBC comedy tonight.

CBS’ new show Partners premieres tonight and it follows a straight man and his gay BFF, played by out actor Michael Urie. Should you watch it? Read this roundtable I was a part of over at AfterElton.com and see if it sways you one way or the other.

PQ Monthly talked with Corin Tucker about when Spin magazined outed her and former Sleater-Kinney band member as having been girlfriends. She told the mag:

I think it probably helped some young people who were coming to terms with their own sexuality, and that is a good thing.

It did, Corin. Probably still is!

Tegan and Sara were interviewed by Gorburger. What is a Gorburger, you ask? You’ll have to watch and see.

French writer Tereska Torrès passed away this week at the age of 92. She was most famous for her 1950 pulp novel Women’s Barracks. The New York Times penned a nice obit for her, including this gorgeous photo.

Basketball Wives star Draya Michele says she tweeted that she was bisexual but took it down because it was “making other people, like, want to attack me.” She followed it up, though, saying “the statement is still valid. I’m not bisexual because it’s trendy.”

Heather Morris wants your vote! Will you give it to her?
