Morning Brew: Rachel Maddow stops by “The Late Show,” “The Good Wife” introduces Kalinda’s ex-husband

Good morning, Brewbies!

Rachel Maddow dropped by The Late Show last night to chat about the madness of this year’s election cycle. The conversation turned to Todd “legitimate rape” Akin, of course, and Maddow weighed in on whether or not he should drop out of the race. She also said she thinks America has a “creepy level of comfort with dictators all over the world.”

And if you haven’t been watching The Rachel Maddow Show lately, I gotta tell you: The woman is on fire. You can watch full episodes at MSNBC.com or you can download a really slick app for your iPad that archives a whole month’s worth of shows.

CBS has dropped some promo pics from the season premiere of The Good Wife. The bad news: It looks like it’s time for Kalinda to finally deal with her ex-husband, Nick, who’s sitting cozy in Alicia’s office. The good news: Kristin Chenoweth and Maura Tierney are back!

In other spoiler pic news, ABC Family has released some photos of from next week’s Pretty Little Liars summer finale, and guess who’s still unimpressed that her BFFs are going after her girlfriend?

An LGBT-friendly church in Ohio was destroyed by arson last week. According to GLAAD:

South Bloomville Christian Church in Hocking County, Ohio, was destroyed by a fire on Friday, August 17. Local authorities have determined that the blaze at the church was intentionally set and are offering a $5,000 reward for information about how the fire was set.

The leader of the church, Rev. Scott Davis, is quoted as saying that he believes the church was targeted for arson because of its welcome of LGBT people. He noted that many in the town were uncomfortable with having an LGBT-friendly church, but was baffled as to who would take the drastic step to commit arson.

You can find out more at GLAAD’s blog.

And finally, my own personal lord and savior J.K. Rowling announced yesterday that she’ll be in the States for a single promotional event for her new book, The Casual Vacancy. On Oct. 16, she’ll participate in a live-reading and “select” Q&A at New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center. She will also be interviewed by Ann Patchett. Tickets go on sale Sept. 10.
