Morning Brew: A “super special lesbian unicorn” on tonight’s “Virgin Diaries,” 20 openly gay athletes at the 2012 Olympics

Good morning, Brewbies. If you’re following Trish Bendix‘s TCA coverage on Twitter (@TrishBendix), you’ve already heard the good news: Trish has joined the cast of Glee!

During Glee‘s panel yesterday, Fox boss Kevin Reilly said:

We know our devoted lesbian fanbase is one of the things that keeps our show afloat, and we listen to them. No, really. Stop hissing. We do. And one thing we’ve been hearing from them for years now is, “Hey, give us a character who will punch Finn Hudson in the face one, two, maybe three times an episode.” And what better way to reach out to, to let the lesbians know we hear them, than to let AfterEllen.com’s Trish Bendix have that honor every week.

(Jokes! Those were jokes! But Trish does look like she could be on TV.)

For the first time ever, tonight’s TLC reality show Virgin Diaries is going to feature a lesbian. Julie is a Christian who likes dodgeball, sword fights, Star Wars, and calls herself a “super special lesbian unicorn.” Check out a clip of her episode below:

Yesterday, BuzzFeed posted a list the 20 openly gay athletes of the 2012 Olympics, and would you believe 17 of the 20 are women? Among them, of course, is US soccer player Megan Rapinoe, who will be playing in her first ever Olympic match today as the US Women’s National Team takes on France. You can catch the game at noon EST on NBC or at NBC.com.

It’s opposite day in Hollywood! Wingspan pictures has cast Kellan Lutz and Camilla Belle in a new drama Love Is All You Need?, a story that takes place in some parallel universe where being heterosexual is illegal. According to The Hollywood Reporter:

The film is set in a world where homosexuality is the norm and follows several storylines. Belle, who is in final negotiations, will play a star quarterback (yes, you read that right) adored by a large fan base while Lutz, whose deal is closed, is an aspiring journalist. The two fall in love, with their relationship growing in secret, but when the romance becomes public, the two find themselves being bullied.

If you’re still wringing your hands because BBC3 hasn’t commissioned a third series of Lip Service, it’s time to join the Twitter petition, which reads:

Without Lip Service, lesbians remain massively under-represented in the British media. 2012 has seen a worrying lack of out lesbian characters in British drama series and it’s very difficult to understand why. The Lip Service fan event on the 15th July was attended by almost 300 fans of the show and the day was a huge success. As a result, it would be illogical to not recommission Lip Service for a third series!

Also, how are we supposed to go on living if we don’t know that Tess gets her happily ever after?!

At their annual Pride Party, Out magazine caught up with Mob WivesRenee Graziano. In addition to airing her grievances with the Pope (“I don’t think [opposing same-sex marriage] is God’s view. I think that’s the Pope’s view … Just be happy. That’s all God wants.”) and proclaiming her love for gay men (“I absolutely love gay men!”), she also talked about having a crush on Ellen DeGeneres, kind of.

Ellen! I have the biggest crush in the world on Ellen. She’s so confident; she’d be the perfect, perfect man. If she could teach men how to be men, we’d all be happy in heaven.

I actually think Ellen is the perfect, perfect lesbian.
