Outside the Lines: Queen of "College Hill"Sexual Technique (with men): D To prove her prowess, Kathy climbed on top of Kasheef and, starting at his belly, licked, kissed and sucked from south to north. She didn't rock his world. "Kathy did a thing on top of me," he said later. "It was cute, but it was nothing I was shocked and amazed about." Afterward, he flipped the switch and put the moves on her. Though she claimed that she wasn't "even close to horny," the consensus both in the house and on the BET message boards was, "She's bi." Sexual Technique (with women): B Later the same night at a local nightclub, Kathy proved she could mack. She picked up a honey, and the two women engaged in a grindy, against the wall rub-a-dub. It was steamy, but points have been deducted because the hottie multitasked by talking on her cell. Audience Response: A Post-coming out (and rub-a-dub), fans have shown Kathy lots of love on the message boards. Here's an (unedited) sample:
However, Kathy should edge out Lonnie, who got drunk, threw up on-camera and then was too hung over to participate in the Episode 6 challenge, building a house for Habitat for Humanity. Or Tationna, who first whined and then wept through the crew's landscaping challenge. Should you watch? Why not! As the writers' strike drags on, you better learn to love reality shows. As the black ones go, College Hill: Interns is a lot more wholesome and inclusive and much less ghetto than, say, Flavor of Love or I Love New York. And until The L Word and The Wire return in January, this is it for African-American lesbians. So tune in, and cast your vote for Kathy. |

Will she win? Probably not. Jenna, the honor student from St. Louis, has my vote. Brash, buff, brainy and beautiful — and even a morning person! — she's the alpha girl to watch.
Grads?
I think she regrets the stuff with the guy
Yeah,
Is this what people get paid to write?
Why?
Irrelevant
To Expand on that Question
Please direct your attention to the top of this website which you have opted to visit. You'll see that the stated content is "News, Reviews, and Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual Women in Entertainment and the Media."
Now please have a glance at the aforementioned article.
Gee. What's here? I'd say there's some review and commentary about an out lesbian on TV. Hmm. Does it fit with the stated mission...
But of course this isn't your point. YOUR point is that no where else in the world but here at AfterEllen.com, do people get paid to write reviews. Of course! Or, you know, for that matter, commentary.
Damn. Since that is the case. I SUPPOSE the writers here (ahem, ladies) probably should streamline their commentary to some other issues, and only those that MATTER.
People get paid to write many things. They aren't getting paid arbitrarily. A little item comes along called supply and demand. I'm not saying Yay Capitalism. But, yes, if that is your question, this is how this part of the world works right now.
The great part? It's a pluralistic society. (At least it tries to be, but another time for that one.) Not only is there a demand for this so-called "ridiculous, irrelevant" writing (someone will soon, I hope, come along and defend the importance of this article, and in general discussing lesbian and bisexual women in the media, including what it describes of and prescribes to the society), but (as I was saying about four hours ago), this writer has every right to write this, AND get paid for it. That's the beauty of it. Just as you do, of course, have every right to complain. Just as you have every right to be rude.
To write is to create dialogue, and we must have dialogue to progress—even here, in an exchange of bitter sarcasm, which I could foresee getting out of hand.
Why should we stop talking about the single way in which lesbian or bisexual women of color are currently portrayed or seen on television? Maybe there are different, even what some might consider "better" ways of discussing it. These writers have chosen to discuss it in this kind of forum. Why is that irrelevant or ridiculous? In fact, discussing media today, the prime mode of impressing, regurgitating, creating, and defying social norms and stereotypes, seems highly relevant. And just because something is treated with humor and light-heartedness does not, I believe, qualify it as ridiculous. Instead it becomes, for many, accessible. Another way of saying, it helps us get into the dialogue. Yes, these writers have chosen to address this topic and to do so through this means—which, it turns out, they stated they would.
Next time you come onto a site that says it will post "News, Reviews, and Commentary about Lesbian and Bisexual Women in Entertainment and the Media"... Please expect that that is what you will read.
Getting off of my soapbox,
