TEENS, TEACHERS, PRESS SECRETARIES, AND CRACK DEALERS
Lots of lesbian movie news this week.

First up: the DVD release of Indian movie The Journey on Tuesday.

Then on March 10th, Loving Annabelle, the modern retelling of the 1931 classic German film Maedchen in Uniform about a lesbian relationship between a student and her teacher, premieres at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose.

On April 7th, we have the limited release of the lesbian action movie Her Line of Fire, which co-stars out actress Jill Bennett and straight-but-not-narrow Mariel Hemingway (of Personal Best fame) as a press secretary and secret service agent who fall in love.

Bennett is currently playing another queer role in the indie film Platonically, a Singles-esque comedy that started filming last month. (Saving Face fans take note: Lynn Chen also co-stars--but her character is straight).

Last but not least, Judy Marte (Raising Victor Vargas), who plays Bennett's love-interest in Platonically, can currently be seen playing a lesbian teen crack dealer in the indie film On the Outs.

Because lesbian crack dealers are people, too, dammit!

SPEAKING OF CRACK, WAS THAT WHAT SHARON STONE WAS ON WHEN SHE AGREED TO DO THIS MOVIE?
Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction, the long-in-the-making sequel to the 1992 movie that made Sharon Stone a star, opens on March 10th. Based on a sneak preview of the trailer, it looks god-awful. I mean, really bad.

Yes, the first movie reinforced all the usual promiscuous/homicidal bisexual stereotypes, but at least it was sexy and had a plot; the sequel just looks like a bad bisexual B movie of the soft porn variety. And no, I don't mean that in a good way.

IMAGINE ME AND YOU
The British lesbian love story Imagine Me and You, which co-stars Piper Perabo and Lena Headey, was slated to roll out nationwide today in America. But due to the film's poor box-office performance so far (it opened in limited release on January 27th), Fox Searchlight has pulled back on promoting it, and it looks like it probably won't be playing at a theater near you, after all.

Which is a shame, because Imagine Me and You really is a cute movie. I saw it in a Seattle theater last week with a few lesbian friends, and yes, it's predictable, and not without flaws, but who cares? The two leads are beautiful, the story is sweet and romantic, and the characters are likeable and funny. And no one dies or gets pregnant.

One of the funniest moments occurred before the film even started, when our young and clueless (male) ticket-taker Bob commented on the high number of women attending the film, and asked curiously, "Is this a movie based on a book?"

Yeah, sure, Bob. It's Pride and Prejudice: Uncut.

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. or read past installments of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever.
