Claire will “engage in sapphic experimentation” with her new roomie on “Heroes”

Last month, IGN reported Heroes will feature a storyline in which Claire (played byHayden Panettiere) and a new character named Annie (Rachel Melvin, formerly of Days of Our Lives) will “share sleeping quarters (and maybe more).” Conceivably, the “maybe more” could have been a guy whose secret power is being a lothario, but of course, both IGN and I took the ball and ran with it, concluding that Claire and Annie will be involved in a lesbian affair.

Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly‘s Michael Ausiello confirmed that yes, Claire and her college roommate will at least, you know, make out and stuff. Ausiello writes:

I’m not sure about a full-blown relationship, but I can confirm that the college roomies will engage in a little sapphic experimentation. At least that’s the plan.

Panettiere had this to say about the same-sex plotline:

I love my job and I love where I am. Heroes has been such a massive part of my life. I’ve been doing it for four years, and at times you get restless; I think anyone would in any job. But I love what I do. I love my job. I love my cast members. They’re all my family. I don’t pay attention to rumors like that. That’s why they’re called rumors. ‘Cause they’re rumors.

Hmm. Let’s recap: rumors are rumors, ’cause they’re rumors. Uncomfortable silence.

Conclusion: Claire is definitely going gay this season.

I don’t know about you, but I recall some foreshadowing about Claire’s proclivities. Remember that scene in the last season where Elle and Claire boarded a plane to Pinehearst, and Elle flipped out and started to shoot lightning bolts everywhere, which caused the plane to spin out of control? Claire grabbed Elle’s hand and absorbed her energy, which stabilized the plane – and Elle. Take a look at this screenshot. Don’t you think they look a little too happy?

Oh, our little Claire likes the crazy ones. Well, don’t we all?

However, don’t expect Claire’s fling with her roommate to last – this is Heroes after all. Claire’s peculiar status as determinant-of-the-future-of-humankind will cause her to remain the main target of those who want to use her power – for good, the bad and the really really ridiculously bad – which will most likely send her on the run, yet again.

So will Claire ever find true love? Or will she be forced to be on the lam forever – or until NBC cancels the series?
