Catching up with AzMarie Livingston

When she was the openly lesbian contender on the 18th cycle of America’s Next Top Model, AzMarie Livingston was our obvious favorite. Since ANTM, she’s gone on to pursue her interests in music and acting. She can currently be seen in the Logo series DTLA (a new episode airs tonight) and is working on a new music video for her song “Morning Guarantee.” We chatted with her via email about DTLA, fashion and enduring the media blitz caused by those rumors about her and actress Raven Symone.

AfterEllen.com: Tell us about your role on DTLA. What was it like working with Melanie Griffith? AzMarie Livingston: I play the character of Ricki, Kimberly’s young hot androgynous girlfriend. It was great working with Melanie. She was very kind and easy to work with, as was Sandra Bernhard. Being a rookie with all-stars made me a little nervous, but I don’t think I showed it!

AE: We loved you on ANTM and were really rooting for you on the show. How did being on ANTM impact your modeling/acting career? AL: Thank you for your support. Being on ANTM didn’t really impact my modeling career. It actually kind of came to a halt. As for the show itself it helped me gain exposure around the world.

AE: What kind of feedback did you get from your LGBTQ fans after your appearance on the show? AL:I’ve received feedback from fans of all colors, shades and hues supporting me equally. Many have said they learned to accept both their masculine and feminine sides after watching me and how I carried myself on TV. It’s a great thing when one can embrace and receive all sides of themselves. I’ve received emails from fans saying they have become more confident learning too not allow others judgments to seep into their conscious. It feels good to know I helped another become more of them self.

AE: Do you still keep in touch with Tyra or any of your Top Model judges or castmates? AL: I do not have access to Tyra, LOL. Haven’t seen or spoken to any judges sense my elimination period. Everything kinda goes on as if nothing happened. It’s been a while since I have spoken to any castmates as well. No particular reason. AE: You’ve been working on music. What can you tell us about your album? What kind of themes and sounds do your songs have? When can we expect to see the video you filmed? AL: My album is a feel good album about friendship, romance, life, and honesty. Cheerful melodies and upbeat tempos fill my storytelling album. My personal video, for the song “Morning Guarantee,” I hope to have ready and online by December! The song itself may be downloaded on Monkeybars.net

AE: A lot of androgynous women have a hard time finding clothes that fit them well. Where do you shop or find styles you like? AL: I shop all around honestly. Any where from Top Man, Zara, Out of the Closet to boutiques and even Target sometimes, teehee. Depends on what I’m looking to wear. I shop in the women’s section a bit more now for my vests or leather jackets and I shop in the men’s section for my skinnies, tanks, tops and accessories. Even my shoes are both men and women’s sizes. I would shop online but that’s to much a risk of something not fitting correctly especially when dealing with European sizes.

AE: You became a paparazzi target for hanging around with Raven Symone but never really had your say about the subject. What was it like to suddenly be thrust into that kind of spotlight? AL: I don’t know what it was like, really. I woke up one morning like I have once before and was all on MTO in a photo with another actor at a party we both happened to attend. Paparazzi aren’t standing outside of my door or jumping out of bushes snapping photos! Works for me anyway, I like my privacy.

DTLA airs Fridays at 12 am on Logo.
