Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. (July 18, 2008)ALL THE GOOD NEWS — AND POETRY — THAT'S FIT TO PRINT Last week, they quoted one of our blog posts. Yesterday, they published an article entitled "Now in Living Rooms, the Host Apparent" about radio and TV personality Rachel Maddow, speculating that she may soon be tapped to headline her own political show.
MSNBC President Phil Griffin told the Times: “At some point, I don’t know when, she should have a show. She’s on the short list. It’s a very short list. She’s at the top.” Entertained by a lesbian during the day and informed by one at night — are Americans ready for that much lesbian sugar in their bowl? Maddow doesn't think it's a problem. "I think Ellen DeGeneres has shown people are ready for her,” Maddow told the Times, adding, “But I will not dance the way Ellen does.” Then in their Books section the same day, the Times published a profile of openly gay poet Kay Ryan, who was just named America's poet laureate this week.
I think I just found another favorite poet. As you might remember from BLWE last month, openly gay poet Carol Ann Duffy is one of the top two candidates for the U.K.'s next poet laureate, who will be chosen next year. This makes me wonder: Do queer women make better poets? Minnie Bruce Pratt, May Sarton, Adrienne Rich, Audre Lorde, Emily Dickinson, Gwendolyn Brooks, Staceyann Chin, Jeanette Winterson — the list of renowned female poets who happen to be gay (or bi) is lengthy and impressive. Oranges really aren't the only fruit! (Oh wait, that's a novel, not poetry. OK, but if Written on the Body isn't poetry, I don't know what is!) My favorite queer poet? Edna St. Vincent Millay, the patron saint of workaholics. I burn my computer monitor at both ends, it will not last the night; but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends, it gives a lovely light! Have you read her letters to Susan Gilbert? Of course, many claim it was simply a passionate friendship. They give a good sampling of Emily Dickinson's "passionate" letters to women in Chloe Plus Olivia: An Anthology of Lesbian Literature from the Seventeenth Century to the Present, edited by Lillian Faderman.
Quotes from Emily Dickinson's letters to her future sister-in-law, Susan Gilbert:

That sounds suspiciously similar to the lesbian-usurped bible passage, Ruth 1:16 - “For whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.”
And now that you think Emily Dickinson might have had lesbian relationships, re-read some of her poems with that in mind. For example:

What a great BLWE. The trip to France seems to have perked everyone up. Maybe you should all get out a bit more often. (*coughs* come to Melbourne *coughs*)

Speaking of Lindsey, while I was in Brisbane Australia a couple of years ago this GORGEOUS woman got on the ferry. I was absolutely gobsmacked by her because of her charisma. She looked like she was a Fortune 500 CEO, Supermodel of the Eons and Queen of the World all rolled into one. Being unable to resist I started chatting with her (this woman about about 6 ft. tall, blonde and charismatic as hell) and I found out she was only 19 years old and that her favorite person was Lindsey Lohan .... <SIGH> So Mika (yeah, she even had a cool name) if you're out there reading this, your girl crush Lindsey is gay.

I really really enjoyed this weeks column! It looks like its been an exceptionally gay week (especially for Miss Lo), which is always good in my book. I wish i could be there at the chat, but since it is at 8 pm which is 2 in the morning here i do not know if ill make it lol. Hopefully it will happen again, a bit earlier maybe.

Out Of The Blue
I read an article from an Aussie newspaper and it made it sound like the 130 episodes is all that will be filmed which sucks as I love that show and the lesbian couple in it,which is obvious as Peppy are my aviator lol.
How lovely are Lena and Olivia and I hope they give 13 a girlfriend in the next season of House as the poor girl has been given a killer disease so let her have some fun.
