Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. (July 13, 2007)INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW The fan fiction section covers a lot of different TV shows, and the wallpaper section features lesbianish collages of a wide variety of shows, from Birds of Prey and Popular to Battlestar Galactica and Law & Order. As is typical with most fan art, the wallpaper offerings run the gamut from creative and seamless to ones that make you want to cover your eyes and yell "My eyes! My eyes!" like Phoebe on Friends. But these fake lesbian tabloid covers made by a ralst.com member named trancer are truly inspired:
I'm amused — and also wondering, why didn't I think of that?! Oh, right: because I already have a zillion things to do. So yay for creative lesbians with more free time! See more of the fake tabloids here and check out L-Word.com's extensive lesbian TV fan fiction section for even more ways to spend way too much time online. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Logo and HRC will co-host the first presidential forum devoted to gay issues on Aug. 9, with live streaming of the event online. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards have all confirmed they will participate. The Game Show Network's new game show Without Prejudice doesn't have any gay contestants yet, but sexual orientation issues come up. Jael from America's Next Top Model lists her sexual orientation as "lesbian" on her MySpace profile (thanks Candace!). Michael Moore might tackle homophobia in his next film. Bill O'Reilly has apologized for the lesbian gangs segment — sort of. That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for another edition of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. |

ralst.com and Hospital Central
I'm so happy to see you mention ralst.com and trancer's hilarious tabloid covers. Passion & Perfection is the best fanfiction site there is :-)
But there's one thing you might want to change in the Hospital Central bit:
Maca gave birth to a baby boy she named Pedro, after the father.
The baby was named after Maca's father, not the baby's father.
Passion and Perfection
ralst.com has been in my “Favorites” on my computer for years!!! Thanks for reminding me to go check out the new content.
you mean...
...there aren't really any lesbian gangs? Dammit. So how are we supposed to scare the straights now?
Not Only But Also
Alright Atlanta!
Alright Atlanta!
I had some lesbian-ish experiences yesterday in The A with my mom, lol. We had a mom/daughter day out (of which I'm not, btw) before I leave for school, I'm just gonna say we drove by Einstein's Bagel's and question's were asked! Oo also, we stopped by the Krispy Kreme (yummmm) on Peachtree and there's a gay bar across the street that I had no idea was there that had these flags that were like black and blue? Idunno, but I asked her about them (I really didn't know they were gay! Has anybody seen these before? Have I comitted a gay faux pas?), she asked, we learned, I was curious...
Also on the Best. Gay. Week. Ever. they discussed the release of the new, even racier version of Showgirls! I just thought you ladies would like to know (maybe a little more than the boys...)!
BDSM
Black and Blue flags represent the leather/bdsm scene. I have only seen gay people have them, but I suppose straight people might have the flags too.
In Atlanta, really??
Yay! A gay sci-fi convention here in the ATL!
I'm vaguely wondering if I'm dead or dreaming. *chuckle*
--Did I mention that I program my TI-83 while shining my pocket protector for fun? Oh yeah, you know you want this...
Yes, really
Not only is there a convention, but there is a gay sci-fi group in Atlanta as well! Check out www.outworlders.info. Many of the people involved in bringing Gaylaxicon to Atlanta are in the Outworlders group. They have a lot of different events each month. See the calendar page on the website. It would be great to have some more women involved.
Oh and how nerdy is it that I was sooo excited to see this mentioned in BLWE (thanks Sarah!)
friday's equal AFTER ELLEN and COFFEE!
why now all of a sudden do i LOVE the tabloids, swedish women, jane austen, hats, sci fi, selma blair, spain.....
oh wait, now i remember...
radha mitchell
thanks as always for a great column. you rock!
excited about "feast of love" - been an age since I've seen radha mitchell in anything - high art feels like forever ago. looks like a decent movie.
"Now if this was a scene on American network television, the two lesbians would walk happily out into the parking lot holding hands — and promptly get hit by a bus. Unless it was a Sweeps week, and then they'd kiss first, before getting hit by the bus."
Lol!! so true.
watched the bill o'reilly "apology" on the link you gave. he doesn't even look interested in talking to rashad robinson of glaad. he isn't even listening. that's not an apology bill. you gotta mean it!! You better watch it bill or I will rally up the "scottish pink pistolettes" gang to take you down!
So many things to comment on...how shall I choose?
Well start at the beginning silly: so I don't know....Lindsey Lohan....I've always gotten a lesbo vibe from her...actually that might be one reason for her substance abuse (dealing with emerging sexuality of any type IN the public eye)...I mean she hangs out with the partying ladies...bad choices admittedly, but not that many guys around... I'm just observing... And I'm not so sure it's temporary...but then she could be taking a page out of Angelina's book.
well...now that I started at the beginning...I think I'll stop here...
Hmmm
Melissa Etheridge had me weeping for ten minutes when I watched her perform live on TV.
I'm also looking forward to the movies discussed here. I watched Clara's Sumer last night and really liked it, as well My Summer of Love. Those Europeans sure know how to make good movies.
Emily Blunt looks GORGEOUS in that trailer for Jane Austin Bookclub, it looks really interesting :)
Chloe, Lindsay, all the rest of them
Lindsay v. Hilary
Lindsay...
I don't know. She seems a little desperate there with. And she has to know they just can't "make" a family. As for the Lindsay vs. Hilary...I'd go with Hilary. She's a lot cuter and more put together, I guess.
Love the TO icon!
This was very refreshing!
lesbian without borders
Feast of Love
Thanks Michele!
Viva Hospital Central
The baby was named after Maca's father, not the baby's father.
Also I believe the father of Esther's child, Raul, is an EMT (emergency medical technician) not a doctor. He is part of SAMUR which is their EVAC like ambulance team/unit.
Also, the couple's storyline for the past few seasons has in ways revolved around the real-life pregnancies of the actresses. Apparently playing a lesbian on a Spanish TV show is terrific for fertility. Who knew? ;)
I got hooked on HC in Ibiza. It's really easy to watch on youtube. Look up "maca esther" that's all you need.... The english translations from spanish are also readily available. Email me if you can't find them ;)
LESBIAN QUOTE OF THE
LESBIAN QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"God, I don't know. She was Swedish. They all look like lesbians. You can't tell!"
— Chloe Sevigny in the July 16 issue of New York magazine, on whether an airport security agent who strip-searched her once was hitting on her
Wow. I live in Sweden and I didn't know that. :P
*ignorence is bliss*
Interesting
Do we all look like lesbians? Naah... Where in Sweden has she been to see all those fine women? She must accidently have ended up in a room full of soccer players or something... ;)
I'm jealous.
Haha. Yeah that have to be
Haha. Yeah that have to be it. That's the only time I see any. Oh And rugby players too. Or she saw a whole rome of goalies (of any kind). ;P
*ignorence is bliss*
hmm...
The Canadian Women's Hockey
The Canadian Women's Hockey team is pretty hot, too. :) Especially former captain Cassie Campbell, and some lovely new ones.
Nikki Wade: You can't leave me like this. This is shit
Helen Stewart: Shit happens.
It keeps getting better and better...
Let's from the beginning. Lindsay Lohan's supposedly girlfriend is so beautiful... I seem to have a thing for blondes these days..On the Lindsay Lohan issue, if she truely is bisexual than the poor girl just got outed. Now, some of us know that's not any fun! ( Note: you can't believe anything in Star anyways..so she's safe...maybe..) She did look however very pretty in Georgia Rule.
Now Feast Of Love(?) seems like a very interesting movie. It's deffinently something I'll drag my lovely to. :) By the way, I cannot wait til Sunday, 9:00(eastern)....State Of Mind! I'm very excited to see the first episode. I have seen comercial after comercial about it. I'm already hooked.
I've never heard of ralst til I read this. I'll deffinently check it out.
And just a note, it's rather amusing over the subject of "lesbian gangs" jeez.. That's just plain silly! But anyways, this has been a LOVELY article. :)
Another note: Just because it's not true doesn't mean you can't use it.. ex: Star Magazine! =D. ( Response to someone asking if the gangs aren't real how are we suppost to scare the straights....
^1^ I never thought I could feel this way again...^!^

Really you should go this site
"lesbian romps"... could anything more be said....
I agree
I checked out the Sports Out Loud site yesterday and I noticed it's mainly aimed at gay men. No surprise there... But really, the first thing I thought when I saw the cover was "Did someone go overboard with photo shopping the tummy area of the young woman on the cover? I mean, where on earth did her belly button go?" (Maybe I just need specs.)
Thanks for sharing ralst.com with the rest of the world; that site's been bookmarked as one of my favorites for quite a while now :)

no I noticed that right away
Charles Baxter novel
Hi, Very interesting tidbits, thanks! Feast of Love sounds like it's based on the Charles Baxter novel that came out several years ago. It's one of my favorite books, he's a great writer. It's a beautifully written novel, and is written from several points-of-view, one of which is the view of the female ex of the main male character - she had left him for a woman. Baxter is one male writer that I think can write female povs quite well. The section that is her voice is terrific, and it describes her meeting this woman and what transpires from there. I encourage people to read the entire book, seriously. It is so good.
It was originally set in Ann Arbor, MI (Go Blue!); not sure why they changed the setting for the film (if it is indeed based on the novel).
I'm a little nervous about the movie, because I love the book so much and would hate to see it wasted - particularly if they limit the ex-wife character's story - Kathryn is her name in the book, and her story is not insignificant (no one's is actually).
ANTM's Jael Strauss
Here's a recent comment from Jael re: her sexuality from http://www.orato.com/node/2991/&page=4:
The show didn’t discuss my sexual preference because it’s none of their business who I do it with. I don’t feel that sexual preference defines who I am personally. I hope I have a lot more interesting characteristics than my sexual orientation. There are “open” lesbian “top models.”
Kim from a previous season was openly gay. I love people. No matter what gender. I don’t consider myself gay, straight or bi. I choose not to limit my experiences in life to men or women. I am currently in an amazing relationship with a man.
Anyone else then find it odd that she'd go with the lesbian option on MySpace?
I thought that too. Ah well,
I thought that too. Ah well, she does say she changes details in her myspace depending on mood. Maybe next week it'll say 'bi'?
It's be so much easier if they just had 'queer' as an option on that stupid site. :)
Jael has already...
...removed her "status" as a lesbian off her myspace.
What's up with that?
:)
>>>>THE SWEDE<<<< Hehe, I was about to say the same. I'm from Denmark so I'm not so far from Sweden (Yay, Scandinavia!) but hmm, why do all swedes look like lesbians? I haven't really noticed? And Danes look like swedes so do we look like lesbians too? hehe... Hmm, anyway I always thought Swedes (the girls) looked more like the ABBA girls hehe :)
Men, vi er så pisse lækre så de fatter det ikke (Ehm... Vi är så jävla snygga dom fatter inget! hehe or something, my swedish is not what it has been, in case you don't understand danish hehe)
:) :)
Hehe. No you sure arn't far away. :P (Woho!!! Scandinavia!!!)
Haha. How nice of you. :P We all look different and I'm so happy of that 'cause I just might have gone mad If I thought I saw my friends everywhere. :/
Det var bra! But, It's fattar not fatter. :) And I did understand the first thing. x)
*ignorence is bliss*
For Samantha's sake, I hope
For Samantha's sake, I hope the rumor is false. She could do so much better than Lindsay. Ew.
As for which team Lindsay is batting on...I'm guessing the answer is whichever one gets her more attention from week to week.
I don't even think Samantha
Passion and Perfection
OOh the Jane Austen book
OOh the Jane Austen book club!!! Ive been looking forward to that one for a long time!! Thanks for teh news and trailer of it!!!
And that was teh worst apology ive ever seen, Bill O reilly!! I feel sorry for the GLAAD spokesperson. O Reilly tells him that he is gonna go through the segment to get his views along the way and then he interjects with his own twisted BS to stop the GLAAD-man from giving his views.
But back to the J.A book club...i wish miss blunt had her devil wears prada red hair back.

MELISSA ETHERIDGE
I must be a horrible lesbian too then....
SMG kissing tutorial
The Sarah Michelle Gellar kissing tutorial comes from the movie "Cruel Intentions". SMG plays a VERY twisted character it's a good movie though u should check it out. Also in the movie "Not Another Teen Movie" they make fun of Cruel Intentions and Mia Kirshner plays SMG's character.
*Nico*
Melissa Etheridge
Rachel; Melissa's new album is called "The Awakening" and is slated for release on September 25. The songs she played (only two got aired over here in Europe) were "Imagine that" (on her new album) and "I need to wake up" (from the documentary "An inconvenient truth").
PS Check out YouTube; you're bound to find the vids of the performance there.

ralst.com...
I love....
this column. I look forward to it every Friday. Lindsay Lohan, all I can say is, God Bless Her.
Swedish Lesbians
I can't figure out if Chloe Sevigny is talking about all SWEDES looking like lesbians or all SECURITY GUARDS looking like lesbians. I'd say the latter is pretty acurate...it's an occupation similar to gym teachers and mechanics, I think, where wearing sensible shoes comes in handy and people would just kind of assume that where there's lace-up boots, there's fire.
Now, if she meant all SWEDES look like lesbians...then lucky us! I've seen the Swedish women's football (soccer) team play and it did nothing but re-affirm my homosexuality.
You're probably right, but
