News, Reviews & Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual women in Entertainment and the Media

"Women in Trouble" is not a chick flick

Sebastian Gutierrez's new film, Women in Trouble, is about 10 women living in L.A. has an amazing ensemble cast which includes Emmanuelle Chirqui (Entourage) and Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls, The L Word). A film about 10 different women's lives can hardly be summed up in a sentence or two, so I'll let stars Carla Gugino and Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) tell you why you should take interest in Women in Trouble. Take note, they're in character — as their on-screen stripper personas.

Warning: NSFW language.

If that isn't enough information about the film for you, then allow me to expand on why I'm interested in seeing it, myself. Early reviews indicate that there are several sorts of bisexual flirting involved in the movie, including Adrianne's character, Holly, and Emmanuelle's Bambi agreeing to perform a "sister act" as call girls one night. However, "bad things happen" and it doesn't go off as planned.

And on a blog dedicated to the film, run by the fictional Electra Luxx, the character of Darby (Cameron Richardson) is described as a vegan that is "currently exploring a bisexual phase."

And lastly, there's a clue that Holly herself might fall in love with another woman at some point in the film. I get this from a point in the new trailer where she says, "She's so stupid she doesn't realize I have feelings for her." I get the idea it's about Bambi, but I could be wrong. Check it out:

OK, it definitely doesn't sound like a typical chick flick. In fact, it sounds like the perfect anti-chick flick, and I'm psyched to see how these 10 women interact with one another and how it ends with sequel potential, as there is already one (Elektra Luxx) in the works.

Women in Trouble opens in theaters Nov. 13. Will you be seeing it this fall?

This looks kinda clever..

Not so much the storyline, but the dialogue.

"I'm not even wearing socks."

The girl who plays Holly is very pretty :)

When I play doctor, I play to win.

i loved it!

saw this last march at sxsw. carla gugino has been my crush since the first time i saw troop beverly hills, so of course i went to see it. she and the the entire cast sat in the row behind me! all i'm gonna say is adrianne palicki's character tells a story in the movie that haunts me to this very day.

as far as the gay content... minuscule unless they changed/added stuff since march which is possible. even so, i would definitely recommend seeing it!

Looking forward to this one....

Carla Gugino is enough of a reason for me to want to see this film and the rest of the actors are like icing on the proverbial cake.

YES.

Regardless of whether there's any gay content, I definitely want to see it. The poster looks like it's for an old Russ Meyer flick, which seems intentional. Unless I'm mistaken, that sounds like Robyn Hitchcock in the trailer. And it's a great example of the fact that a movie about women does not have to fall into the "chick flick" category or even be geared ONLY at women.

Hot, bothered, strong and empowered. I doubt it'll be playing in my city, but I'm definitely picking it up for rental.

Totally go

I saw it and liked it.  Funny turn on exploitation films/books (acutally a comment once removed about Taratino and Almodovar's look at exploitatiion films...) and a decent effort. Lots of gorgeous (albeit in an LA sort of way) in lovely bras.  Sadly, the "sister act" problem is mega dark humor, and not a juicy gay theme at all.
