Lucy Lawless in "The Difference" PSA

Myrina Films and Lucy Lawless have teamed up to record a PSA on the differences between domestic partnership and marriage. If you don't know some of them, now is a good time to find out.

For more information on Myrina Films, visit myspace.com/myrinafilms.

I heard about this the other

I heard about this the other day. I wonder where it will air.

First of all, I didn't even recognize the warrior princess on The L Word until someone pointed her out. Second, the bride trying to put the ring on the man's finger is hilarious.

The whole thing seems a bit hokey, but I suppose it will do the job.

Spooky looky likey with Lucy and Eva

I agree with the 'hokiness' but I s'pose any publicity / awareness is a positive thing.

I was more blown away by Eva Tamargo in the Spanish version...doesn't she look a little bit like the luscious MS Lawless pre-haircut??

I really like the ring scene!

She needs to record a PSA

She needs to record a PSA as Xena :)

Sigh...that woman will forever be my dream woman.

THANK YOU for posting "The Difference" PSA

Hi all,

I wanted to say thank you to Sarah and AE for posting the PSA, but also thank you to AE members for your support.

It was fantastic that Lucy and Eva agreed to narrate for us. They are both strong supporters of the LGBT community.

If you have time, you can check out the other vids at: http://www.youtube.com/user/CAEqualityNow  and please pass the PSA's on, repost, etc. Many people have questions about the difference between domestic partnership and marriage. This vid might  help to open the eyes of those on the proverbial gay marriage fence.

Hopefully things will go our way with the looming California Supreme Court Prop 8 decision.

My respect for Lucy goes through the roof!

I've been an avid Xena fan for over ten years, attending conventions, attending Lucy concerts, making lifelong friends, and oh yeah, coming out along the way. :) Lucy Lawless has always been incredibly supportive of the GLBT community and her fans and my respect for her goes up another notch (if that's even possible!) with her support of the anti Prop 8 rallies in LA and now this PSA. Good on ya, Lucy! I just forwarded this to my friends, so that we can keep reminding people that marriage vs domestic partnership is not just an issue of semantics but equal rights.

as if we already haven't

as if we already haven't enough reasons to love this lady. This should air on every single television station every hour and be included in front of every single movie screening. it's short and to the point and it might help wake up people who assume rather than know.

I Really Like Lucy's Aussie Accent

www.myspace.com/lunakiss7.com

This is the 1st time I've ever heard  Lucy Lawless speak in her native accent. Sounds cool at the same time hot. Nicely done PSA. Now can you work with other states on their PSA LGBTQI issues like adoption, please?

It was worth a shot in asking. =)

Not Aussie!

She's not from Australia, she's from New Zealand. Imagine Canadians being called Americans or Scottish/Welsh/Irish being called English...!

Sorry, My Bad

I didn't know. Thanks for correcting me.

Renee's picture

Right on!

I'm Canadian and I agree when people mistake me for being American I get a little annoyed.

Also...I spent a great deal of time in New Zealand and Australia...and I can assure anyone that the accents are SO different it's wild.

Actually...one of my biggest annoyances was having to show an Irish guy in Australia my passport after he insisted I was American and was just pretending to be Canadian. Some people are so odd.

AHHHHHHHH!

No, no, no! She's a kiwi, not an Aussie (as pointed out above).

She's actually speaking quite "poshly" (probably to be understandable to Americans), but she still sounds like a kiwi chick, not an Aussie. For example, for "this", it sounds a little bit like "thus". But Aussies say it "theees" (that's somewhat exaggerated).

The big giveaways are words like "dance" and "chance". Most Aussies say them like Americans, we say them like the English do - "dahnce".

JetGrrl's picture

Don't forget Aussies always

Don't forget Aussies always end their sentences on an upward intonation? So it always sounds like they're asking a question? Even when they're not? And they have weird names for things like "doona"? And its just about as nasal as you can get? And they say 6 like "seeks"? And you have to work the word "mate" into every sentence?

Ahhh I've been living here too long to take the piss... or "puhss" as they tell me I say.

As if I didn't already love

As if I didn't already love Lucy to the max.

She is so super cute, and that accent..

Hope this is one more voice in the fight against inequality.

If it's possible...

I just fell a little bit more in love with Lucy Lawless :)

Lucy on Flight of the Conchords

What a great asset to humanity she is.

By the way, I happened to tune in to an episode of Flight of the Conchords tonight on HBO and there she was -- playing an aide or something to the New Zealand prime minister.  The show is hilarious, and it was a huge treat to see her on it!

Ummmm...

Is it just me, or is the gravity of this message is totally annihilated by the campiness of these "reenactments?"

Yay Lucy Lawless, yay script, but let's take this seriously shall we? I can't even tell if they're trying to be funny or not.

monica_ca's picture

Campiness

There is a slight campiness, but slight enough where I doubt it was intentional, and more just a result of bad acting/bad scenes/bad use of music.

It can be somewhat hard to tell if they're going for funny or serious with it.  Hopefully with future PSAs they'll get better.

CharisxX's picture

Love ya Luce!

Nice to see she did this. Lucy always tries to give her voice in support when she can! I agree with Daria89, is it possible to love her more than I already did. I guess so! xX

I still love Lucy

Oh how I miss my warrior princess lol That was really sweet of her to do a PSA. Thanks Lucy.

Kudos

I really loved this clip.

Apparently, Lucy Lawless is still a huge supporter of the GLBT community.

Kudos, Xena! =D
