Gal Pals: "The L Word" movie and HBO's gay-friendly programming (Episode 14)Emily is back from Las Vegas, and we talk about Ilene Chaiken's confirming that an L Word movie is in the scripting process. We agree we don't want the entire film to be about who killed Jenny, because the whole last season was about her death. Also, we talk about HBO being the most gay-friendly in their programming, according to GLAAD and Samantha Ronson's sneaker line for Supra. Gal Pals: Episode 14

the sopranos addressed
the sopranos addressed closeted homosexuality, david one of the main characters of six feet under was gay (alan bell's first tv masterpiece), and duh, who can forget stanford blatch?! all men, yes, but none the less...
and yes, i would wear sam ro's sneakers.
Taking time out
HBO paid for it
Hey GLAAD I got a couple of dollars can I buy the title Most Gay Friendly Blogger?
SHO is by far the most Gay friendly cable network.
-I speak in random thoughts
looking fwd to the l word
looking fwd to the l word film, would hope that they dont devote to much time to the who killed jenny theme, will defo be there have been following blog 9 through your tweets thanks. True blood aired for the first time last friday but from the one episode that ive seen, love it like anything to do with vampires anyhow. Welcome back emily and thanks for the vlogs.
lifes for living so live it !
i think every single one of
i think every single one of SHO top shows right now has at least one prominent gay character. SHO should have been ranked gay supreme.
i may be sort of looking forward to the L word movie, so long as its not S6 redux.
i wouldnt buy the SR shoe because theres nothing really original to it. All she did was choose a new color palate for the same "skytop" that supra has been pushing for about a year or two now [i have them in all white leather] at least T&S's shoe is more of an "original concept" that the skytop.
again i really enjoy gal pals. definitely the only Vlog on AE i watch.
L Word movie...
I'm not sure I like this idea. I don't think the show would make a good movie. And it doesn't need that closure that movies can bring to cancelled tv shows, like Firefly/Serenity. Or the potential Veronica Mars movie. It would provide closure for the die hard fans. We all knew the L Word was going to end with it's sixth season.
As for the shoes, I would rather have Tegan and Sara's shoes. The skater thing is more my style. Of course if someone bought me a pair of Sam's I would totally wear them.
Welcome back Emily!!
Would I buy SamRo's shoes? Probably. I have a thing for shoes. I don't care what they are, who they are by, I just gotta have them. And a plus black and gold were my school colors. I still have my Panther (school mascot) Pride.
I think The L Word movie may or may not be the smartest thing. I think it will be a good idea if somehow they make it like season six had never happened. Season Six was just...guh....
I love Gal Pals.
Welcome back Emily. :)
I am SUPER excited about The L Word movie. I hope they don't focus too much on who killed Jenny either, even though I do want to know. I was disappointed with the last epsidoe, and with Season 6 in general. I still loved it, but not nearly as much as the previous 5 seasons. I hope Chaiken and co. stick to the original aesthetic of the show, even though I expect some changes 'cause it's a movie, not a series. I REALLY hope they don't do a limited release because I live in Ohio, so that'll make it impossible for me to spend way too much money on seeing it multiple times!
I would buy Samantha Ronson's shoes if I could afford them, they look cute. Releasing sneakers the cost $150 in the middle of a recession is pretty foolish though. I'll stick to my Converse and ballet flats 'cause I have bills to pay.
Noo, for the love of all
Noo, for the love of all that is...whatever and sane and um good, TLW movie should not be made.
You know what's funny? how a lot of articles here on AE complain of like crazy lesbians and killer lesbians and waaaa negative stereotypes, how we can't get anything good. Then here we have a lesbian who had the power to make something, I dunno, possibly good? but she's like naaah, I'm going to kill Jenny cos like who cares she's crazy, invite Lucy Lawless to investigate wooo, throw in some Tibette sex for good measure, the end. Seriously you guys, have you all forgotten the disaster that was S6 and the confession tapes? Tina confessed she had an incestual affair with her sister, Bette got all emo and was like why didn't she ask me to be preggers? and I was like OMFG? why didn't you ask Tina yourself? and whoa Tina, where the hell did that come from?
are we that desperate?
hell, I'd even sign a petition for No TWL Movie
Pug!!!
I was cracking up when I saw the chinese pug in the background just randomly popping his/her head up bahahhaha
Y'all make me laugh...keep up the fantastic work!
Welcome back Emily! Great ep as always!!
I am a bit torn when it comes to a possible L-Word movie, the last season sucked big time (exeption 6x05 directed by Angela Robinson). On the other hand I would watch pretty much anything that has Rachel Shelley in it!
When it comes to guests in your vlog, Hornito was a great seatfiller, I hope to see her come back again.....AND not that I am begging but can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have Jen Sabella on too if it is possible:) She is amazing!
Jen
Lauren/AkA-LaurenZO I
Lauren/AkA-LaurenZO
I would LOVE AN Lword film just as long as they bring CARMEN BACK!
HBO.
So Smooth
After watching this I think my next plan of action is to stay in and work on research project, SHO v. HBO, while saving money to buy the Samantha Ronson sneakers.
I like dressing up a little to go out. Usually the vest/tie combo sort of thing. Classy sneakers keep me from feeling over dressed. Plus I'd like to support Sam Ron. It's nice to have a talented female artist repping a less femme-y style (not that I don't appreciate it). She is dyke style gold. Same with Tegan and Sara too. If a girl can dream, my goal is a shoe rack full of dyke-designed hi-tops
Alsoo-
After the last season of the L Word, nothing Chaiken could do with the movie would really, actually surprise me. I can't wait.
I too would like to see Alice's vampire girl show up in the movie. She was so understanding encouraging Alice to go on a rescue mission for her life-size Dana cardboard cut out. And damn sexy. Oh, Uta.
Last thing -
is there any way to request a cameo from those Carlos Santana shoes? Amazing. I just can't imagine. So smooth.
Meh.
I like T & S but i wouldnt buy those types of sneakers in general (I prefer chucks).
I suppose that doesnt help, but i just don't like them, they remind me of all the "cool" 15 year old kids lol.
Getting further off the topic lol i think those sneakers are such a genY fad atm and they're bloody everywhere.
I should prob shut up about the sneakers haha i sound like an anti sneakers activist.
BTW Welcome back Emily Swift
=D
Ilene Chaiken came to speak
Ilene Chaiken came to speak at my school, and when someone called out, "Who killed Jenny?" she first said that she should've told people not to ask that, but then said it was most likely Jenny herself, or Bette. Don't know if that actually meant anything. Honestly, I know a movie could potentially be not such a great thing, but I would see it...I wouldn't pass up an L Word movie. I actually didn't have Showtime by the end of the L Word and didn't even know about the interrogation tapes, but after watching this vlog I looked up Bette and Tina's and gaahh, I declare them non-canon, at least to me. I thought they were awful and I see no reason why the characters would have said any of that - especially in the context of an interrogation after Jenny's death. I watched (& enjoyed) all of the show, though, and wouldn't mind more of it. The first thing that came to my mind was "BRING BACK LARA"... what happened to her? She was too cute not to be on the show...
<3 Gal Pals
p.s. Ilene also said that she would have kept Shane and Carmen together if Sarah Shahi had not left to do another show. (on the topic of bringing Carmen back)
