Best Supporting Vlog: Kate Winslet and "Revolutionary Road"

As you’ve surely noticed, it’s the time of year when Hollywood pulls out the stops and releases their uber-important films, hoping to score come Oscar-time. Critics’ best-of lists are issuing forth daily, and you’re likely trying to figure out when the hell you can see all of these hard-hitting flicks.

Logo's Liz Dahmen and John Polly feel your pain, and in their brand new Best Supporting Vlog, they’re going to hold forth about all the Oscar buzz, discuss which heavy-duty movies are coming out, what’s gonna win, and who’s getting shafted. Plus, they’ll present freaky Oscar party ideas, trailer reviews (in case you can’t see the whole damn movie) and loopy insight on how this all might matter to gay folks.

This week, the pair talk Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road, the absence of a good lesbian host and those baffling Golden Globes. Plus, ice cream!

Best Supporting Vlog (Episode 1)

Look for more in the New Year as we hit the Golden Globe Awards (Jan.11th) and go spiraling full-on toward the Oscars on Feb. 22nd.

Sassy intro

Well, it's got a great intro ;)  I like the idea about an Oscar vlog, especially because it's not easy to watch the Oscar show itself when you're in Europe and suffering from time difference (or at least that's what it's like for me)

BTW: Wonderful pic of ms. Hepburn!

You didn't even take your clothes of, yet you've never looked more naked.

cool idea. the pairing of

cool idea.

the pairing of teh guy that knows and the lady that doesn't is pretty interesting.

will this be a weekly vlog? if they only talk about one movie per week they won't even get close to talk about all the contenders...

this vlog would be a bit better if the people had actually seen the movies already. shame you couldn't get someone who has access to press screenings.

The best performance in the

The best performance in the unremarkable Revolutionary Road comes neither from DiCaprio or Winslet, both giving performances that only work if one doesn't look below the surface, but a guy named Michael Shannon.  A few scenes and he steals the movie.  Winslet is better here than in the excrutiating The Reader which is not saying much.  Lucky for her, her name is Kate Winslet so she will get at least one nomination.   The HFPA are notorious from staying away from what they see as agenda films, which is why the great Milk did not get nominated (just as the not so great Crash didn't either at the GG's a few years ago).

There is a strong chance two queer characters will win come Oscar night.  The only way Penn loses is a heavy sentimental vote for Eastwood overtakes Penn.  Meanwhile Penelope Cruz is a lock playing a bisexual artist in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. As for supporting actor, Ledger will be only the 2nd actor to win posthumously (personally think Brolin's performance in Milk is one of the most difficult of the year).  Best actress will sadly go to Anne Hathaway for her dull, artificial performance in Rachel Getting Married.  The winner of the New York Critics, Los Angeles Critics and Boston film critics (a sweep of the three most acclaimed critics awards), Sally Hawkins, will have to make due with the knowledge that people that know acting know that she has given not only the best performance of the year but one of the 10 greatest in film history.

Funny Liz! :)

Well that was an interesting start. I'm excited to know how this vlog is gonna turn out.

By the way, some of Liz's little mannerisms and sometimes the way that she says things and her facial expressions remind me of Carol Burnet. It makes me pretty happy! :D
