This week, Olive, Hanifah and special guest Shelley Nicole discuss the sticky issue of having to bridge talks among black folks across sexualities.
Also, did they feel the community did their part in regards to Prop. 8?

My opinions
My opinion on poverty in the LGBT community and how to possibly help: I think it should start with providing shelter. Let these people see that society (or a community) cares about them. While providing shelter, no one should judge/question why an individual has survived by prostituting him/herself. Once that occurs than have a professional counselor talk to the individuals, not the community. Allow the individual to have their own purpose of life.
My opinion on churches with brown skinned people and the LGBT: Personally I do not go to church, also I was not raised in church. I had attended some churches while growing up. Anyways, I say just be honest with church members. If the church members have seen you grow up in their church and you explain your sexuality, possibly the members could look past sexuality and see the individual you are (that grew up in their church). There definitely will be members who will pass judgement no matter what. You cannot change their opinion just like they cannot change yours. So I say just be honest and continue being the individual you are. I do prefer if an individual who was raised going to a church to speak on this topic. I think they would provide much more insight than I.
Thanks for the episode.
THE BLACK CHURCH COMMUNITY: UNSPOKEN PEACE

I'm surprised a lot of people haven't comment about this episode. Finally I'm able to comment.
I agree with the callers and you ladies about what's going on in the black community churches. Homosexuality is unspoken issue in the community churches. I have grown up in all black church first as a Baptist then as a Pentecostal. As a teenager, I would pick up gay vibes from certain preachers or church memebers. It's like they have two different lives:one)public and second the private. These black church going folks make good actors. Seriously. I met some bible thumping people along the way. I think a lot of black churches revolve around ego and comptetition and popularity. I called the show factor. This is where Black Chrisitanity has lot their true spirituality b/c of these false things.
I agree with you Hanifah about the true essence of GOD. GOD can not be both love and hate. People can. I think over the centuries people confuse the ideal image of GOD with the characteristics of MAN. Thisis where confusion comes in. People aren't perfect but still common sense need to be used with image of GOD.
I am not Chrisitan nor do I go to church. I do believe the Black Chruches have beome wishy-washy and lost their spirituality and exhange of homophobic propaganda towards LGBTQI commuinty.
As far as talking to the black church community about homosexuality, I see it as lost cause. As long as they have the need to want to belong to a community-a group, for safe and secured reasons, than there will be no one to stand-up against ignorance there will never be change.
I am specifically speaking of those, as I call them, fake African-American church going folks who give two different beliefs about homosexuality just so they can feel the support of a "community." These people will nod their heads in church agreeing with a preacher speaking against gays and lesbians , who by the way, exist within the church. These nodding head folks if you talk to the min private will give you a different answer or a half-coked answer knowing thier spouse or child is gay They are just in denial and fearful of having people turn their backs on them.
All it takes is one individual to stand-up and speak out against this silence within the black church community.
I hope I make sense to you on this. I'm not knocking on black churches as a whole entity. I am talking about those who are on the "down-low" and are in the closet and those who are scared to support LGBTQI in fear of negative repercussions from the African-American churches.
I said my peace on that.
I think it's cool that you are doing this live. I hope there are more callers in your episodes.

YEAH!!! ON LOGO...
I can't wait to see your movie on Logo in Feb. I was trying to get to New York to see it, but finances (BOO-HOO!!).
I really love the insight you & your friends bring. Your broadcast on Logo could very well be one of the important vehicles that drives the "gay black folks" to bring their struggle to light (I speak this out loud & cast its power into the universe).
Got to go!!! working on research paper!!
Can't comment must because of school work, but I'm watching!!!
