The worst reality on televisionWhy is everyone so ashamed of admitting they like reality television (myself included)? Honestly, I have probably seen more episodes of America's Next Top Model than I have of Law & Order: SVU, yet the latter is the only one showing up in my "favorite television shows" on MySpace or Facebook. (And if I can admit I'm on both of those, why is it so hard to profess my love for Rock of Love?) The contestants of America's Next Top Model Cycle 10 at judging There are some really great reality shows, such as Project Runway, Work Out, the two I mentioned above, and several others. What ruins it for us all — all of us closeted reality TV fans — are the ridiculously embarrassing shows. Not the ones that are so bad they're good (speaking of, I really can't wait for Living Lohan on E!). You know the awful ones I'm talking about — the ones that make you embarrassed of not only reality but human interaction. I've always known about them, and even suffered through an episode or two, but it's only recently I realized how bad it has become. I realized this the week that two new shows hit my screen in previews: Farmer Wants a Wife and Groomer Has It. The first show is about Matt, a 29-year-old farmer, and his quest for a "city woman" to join him on his farm. The cast of Farmer Wants a Wife From the previews, it appears the city women do the dirty farm work and Matt then decides who can handle his lifestyle. According to the official site, these women (who appear to be ages 21–15) are definitely not fit for this, considering their occupations range from "Playboy cybergirl and aspiring actress" to "singer/dancer/street performer." Left to right: Amanda, Brooke, Krista, Lisa, Christa, Kanisha Not only does this show sound painful, it sounds completely unrealistic. Yes, there is a difference between Bret Michaels seeking out a rocker chick to be his temporary backstage boo and a farmer looking for a rural wife. Farmer Wants a Wife debuts on April 30, after ANTM. Check out the preview to see if it's bad enough to keep the CW on for an extra hour:
Groomer Has It contestant Lisa with host Jai Rodriguez Then their challenge was to groom a fake dog made of yarn. One poor guy made his fake dog's leg fall off, and was sent home. Riveting, really. Animal Planet could have come up with some better shows, like Cutest Pug Owned by an AfterEllen.com Writer, and it could be judged by, you know, my girlfriend. I would totally enter. Here are the contestants on the show groaning over their fake furry friends (which they also have to name):
There are plenty of others, and they will certainly keep coming. What will they think of next? Oh, they just announced it — Pamela Anderson is getting her own show on E. Will it be more or less of a train wreck than the Denise Richards show? Only time will tell.

Who Wants to be a Superhero
... was totally a guilty pleasure of mine! I must admit, I only watched the first season (if I sound guilty, it is because there was a lesbian on the second season), but I too, have an odd addiction to incredibly trashy reality TV. Rock of Love, Flava Flav, Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, I Love New York, and so many other shows that should have never been created are ALWAYS on at my house.
And it's not just me! My roommates are even worse! What is it about the apalling lengths these people will go to for fame that draws us in?!?
LegallyOut
Bad Girls Club
i think part of it may be
i think part of it may be the whole voyeur thing; we get to actually see into other people's lives. even though some of it's fake and heavily edited, we get a glimpse of how other people actually are and live as opposed to scripted shows with actors. for this reason, i think that reality t.v. can be more interesting and at times entertaining. plus, we do tend to like tuning in for the freak show.
on the other hand, it does get carried away and i get so sick of these narcissistic babies who cry and complain over the lamest little things when there are people with REAL problems in the world. most of the people on these shows are wannabe actors, singers, any kind of performer where "fame" can better their career and it's sad how stations devote so much time to these ridiculous fantasy worlds where attention-whore "contestants" or "roomates" use these shows for a fix to the detriment of our sanity.
want to revamp your career? forget sex tapes; star in your own lame reality show. it must be a nice way to make a living though, especially with no talent or education or having to do any real work.
that said, i do watch some reality t.v. - some are not as bad as others. it can be enjoyable once in a while, though i often get really sick of it and i don't get obsessed with it or the people on it like it seems some people do. i often wonder, why am i even watching this?
"the ones that make you
"the ones that make you embarrassed of not only reality but human interaction."
I don't know why, but that line made me laugh my arse off. I am a proud reality show lover. I don't care how stupid or unbelievable they are becoming I will be there to watch every embarrassing moment.
HURL
Not my response to the titles listed above, it is actually an upcoming reality show on the G4 network (in the E! Entertainment family). According to USA TODAY from March: This summer, look for more humor aimed at the Maxim set: Hurl, an original U.S.-made eating-and-regurgitating competition that will gorge contestants on chicken pot pies or clam chowder, then strap them into spinning rides. "Whoever hurls last wins," says G4 president Neal Tiles.
Also, I felt really bad for the cute, coiffed, charming & well dressed Jai Rodriguez when I saw an ad for the dog groomer show.
Seriously, I would gladly clean my bathroom than watch these shows. The 21-15 comment was the best...& looking at that picture, so true.
