A lesbian ratings stunt on "Greek"?

On an upcoming episode of the ABC Family show Greek, sorority member Rebecca (played by Dilshad Vadsaria) is going to kiss her friend Ashleigh's openly gay sister, Robin (Anna Osceola). The synopsis of the episode, which will air on May 4 and called "Dearly Beloved," says that Rebecca will kiss Robin during a bachelorette party game, and it will "spark her curiosity."

Considering Greek's track record with these sorts of things (like, female story lines in general), and the fact that they're touting this storyline in promos (and we all know how well that worked out for the lesbian storyline on House), I suspect this is a ratings stunt that leads to Rebecca having a brief "crisis" over her sexuality before deciding an episode or two later that it was just for fun, and she's still a straight sorority girl. And we'll never see Robin again.

At least it will probably be better, and last longer, than the lesbian scene in the web series Sorority Forever that aired online last year.

In a promo for the episode (which you can watch here), Rebecca talks to out fraternity brother Calvin about her new confusing feelings.


Will Rebecca end up being bisexual or a lesbian? Is another ratings-stunt lesbian storyline still better than no lesbian storyline at all?

    It looks like they might be making Rebecca's character gay after all! This past week she was struggling with her sexuality and said she thinks she might be gay. We'll have to keep watching to find out though = )

    I just emailed afterellentips about this yesterday. How great that you found more info. This show is a guilty pleasure of mine, being in a sorority it's funny to see how they portray greek life. I'm crossing my fingers for a good story...

    No, another lesbian ratings storyline is not better than no storyline at all. 

    Especially if they're just going to plead temporary insanity like they do in every other show featuring a lesbian ratings storyline while effectively discouraging self-unaware bisexuals from acting out on their feelings by drilling into their heads that it's impossible to rule out the cock forever.

    Yeah, I totally agree. We need good visibility, not just one "insanity" moment, like most shows try. A definite ratings stunt.

    Now, I've only seen a few episodes of this show, basically just something to watch if I am literally dying of boredom.  But in my opinion, they'll give her this one storyline for a bit, it'll end, and then she'll just become the girl that dates guys but is known for hooking up with other girls whenever they feel the need to bring it up.

    I really don't think it is going to last. I would only be glad if it is a legit relationship, not some crazy moment for a "normal" person. I love to see lesbians on tv like the next girl but I don't think I will be watching this unless it's a real relationship, not a fling or lapse in judgement. But I really don't see this happening, the girl who is straight looks like a pretty bitch looking for a good time. Excuse me for my language but that's what I think.

    How is it that a show that, seemingly, does well with a storyline about an out, gay African-American man in a fraternity is so ineffectual at telling the stories of women? I just don't understand it..

    Too bad this storyline won't go anywhere, Dilshad Vadsaria is pretty hot.

    We're better without ratings stunt unless it's women we're really interested in (Like Tina Fey and Salma Hayek).  Otherwise, I'd rather have one good storyline instead of 10 of these kinds of kisses.

    My two cents;  Yes it may be a ratings stunt (as these things usually are), however if this is done the right way, it could be seen as someone trying to figure our their sexuality and is that a bad thing? She may not end up with a woman, but her struggling with and trying to find her identity isnt all bad.

    Rebecca is my favorite character and I can't wait until she snogs another lady. Knowing Rebecca, she probably doesn't stay with Robin. She might if Robin turns out to be a bad ass with an extremely naughty side. Rebecca is such a rebel. Hear her rawr.

    Are you sure it's not going anywhere?  It was open ended, and apparently Rebecca came out as a lesbian.  Spoil me if you must.

    Wouldnt surprise me. These people would do anything for ratings. ... It'll be like Marissa on The OC or Rebecca on Greek. I am greek and from the island Ikaria a little lucky having my grandfather leave a house there.Gay and lesbian teens are much more apt to be bullied...A publicity stunt by the show to boost ratings?
