And now, a little something for the ladies

If you haven't experienced the magic that is Flight of the Conchords, I suggest you utilize a search engine pronto. This New Zealand-based duo (Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement) are hilarious and catchy with their comedy/music styling, which has garnered them their own television series on HBO as well as two albums on Sub Pop Records.

While their self-titled show is about them trying to become famous, in reality they are finally becoming a hit in the States. They recently released a video for their '70s-inspired single, "Ladies of the World," which is a song dedicated to every single one of us out there, whether we are "ugly, skanky or small."

I like their advocation of soldiers putting down their weapons and instead picking up a woman, and "brunettes not fighter jets." While you probably won't want to take them up on their offer of making love to you ("it's the least we can do"), you'll appreciate that some dudes want to "show you some gratitude."

Check out their song on Myspace. After the realizations we had on the blog yesterday about women being left out of the Time magazine list of influential people and this summer's movie line-up, let's start Friday off with a tribute to us.

    I love flight of the concords!!!! This song is hailarious but I think their HBO one night stand is one of the best things they've done. I'm glad to see afterellen blogging about them coz I have known about them for a while and its good to see my favourite site including them. :)

    A new vid by the Concords that I hadn't seen yet, and I get to see it on Afterellen! Yes! Fun to watch, but I didnt find it as funny as some of thier other stuff. Still, its for the ladies, so its a winner with me. You guys never fail to bring me back each day, and keep me interested with excellent content! Thanks Afterellen staff!!

    I just got back from New Zealand (I was there 6 weeks) and they have so much culture and talent...I'm glad these guys are set to be known globally. Anything produced by that unbelievable country is bound to be great. I LOVE NEW ZEALAND. ~Renée

    I saw them on One Night Stand a few years ago and instantly loved them. In a completely platonic way, of course. I was really excited when they got their own show on HBO. It is hilarious. And interesting, too, to see how our society is viewed from the outside. They have some great social commentary mingled in with their hilarity. My favorite song ever, I think, is "Mother *uckers". Everyone check that one out.

    Trish Bendix, not only do I increasingly appreciate you and your exquisite taste, I appreciate Flight of the Concords, and also my favorite music label EVER (Sub Pop Records) for being brilliant enough to sign them on and bring them to the states. Oh. I'm sure HBO helped with that too.

    I must say I always get a little buzz when AfterEllen has articles or mentions us Antipodeans (and not in a way that has us connected to Australia - not that we dont like Aussies immensely but we like our uniqueness!). Thanks very much for including us...anytime you want to organise an AfterEllen meet up in NZ - I'm sure a whole bunch of us would really love it!!

    The FOTC are a great duo, they're always doing weird little gigs around town (wellington) and are even better live than in their show. Two very talented and funny guys.

    I'd be totally into an AE meetup back home as well. I'm living in Oz at present (I know, I know), but I'd travel back to NZ in a shot for that. Not that I really need many excuses.

    And it's great to see FOTC doing so well in the big smoke.

    FOTC are hilariously funny, and even moreso i think if you´re from kiwiland because there are a lot of in jokes!!! like when brian the manager settles something by calling helen. to the average viewer i don´t think they´d know that helen is our prime minister!!

     

    gotta love our two boys from nz!!!!
