Really?! REALLY?! Tina Fey, the 24-year-old virgin and Ralph Lauren fires "too fat" size 4 model (Episode 25)In this week's episode of Really?! REALLY?!, your question of the week is Michelle's first RR moment and biggest pet peeve: the issue of women and weight. Filippa Hamilton's 8-year run as a model for Ralph Lauren was terminated because, at 5'10" and 120 pounds, the company deemed her too fat. Also, Michelle calls out Tina Fey for saying she "couldn't give it away" on Letterman and gives a positive Really?! REALLY?! to a California Judge that challenged a lawyer defending Prop 8. Learn out more about Michelle at MySpace.com/anythingsarcastic, follow her on Twitter and check back next Friday for another episode of Really?! REALLY?! Submitted by on October 16, 2009 - 12:00pm. |

The fashion industry just
?
SKELETOR!!!!!!!!!lol
SKELETOR!!!!!!!!!
lol
Seriously?
I have done a little modelling in the UK, and I’m 5'8 140lb(ish). I am a UK size 10 which I think is a US 8 and I really don’t think I look fat, and quite frankly I would look stupid if I were thinner
i mean do i look fat????
these people really need to get out into the real world and see real women.
no you don't and i concur
no you don't and i concur u would look ill if you was any thinner, incidently very nice photo (no offence ment)
good looks catch the eye, good personality catches the heart
oh wow..really?
"all of a sudden
a straight person's uterus is gonna shrivel up and die"
fucking funniest thing i've heard all week.
Thoughts
Ralph Lauren: I wonder if all this is a publicity stunt, in the vein of "no press is bad press." The last time I heard about Ralph Lauren this much was when Rachel worked for him on "Friends" in, what, 2000? And at least the backlash about the whole thing is loud enough that is will resound with young girls who might have body image issues. Instead of thinking, "A 120-lb model was fired for being too fat? What does that make me?", I hope they'll think, "A 120-lb model was fired for being too fat? That's f'ed up."
Tina Fey: She's pretty much built a career on being socially awkward and inept with men, so it doesn't surprise me that Fey might have had a "homely" period. *ducks tomatoes* Her words, not mine! Besides, you don't become the head writer at "SNL" at 29 years old if you're more concerned with sex than your career. She probably could have "given it away," but she had other priorities.
California Judge: Sounds like the judge gave a "Really?! REALLY?!" to that lawyer. Can't wait to see what kind of evidence the lawyer comes up with.
PS Michelle is only 5'4"? Me too! For some reason, I thought you were taller than that. Maybe it's the angle of your computer's camera?
Agreed
I've heard about this Ralph
I've heard about this Ralph Lauren... ahmmm... lets call it - business... a few days ago and I thought I was seeing things wrong. I mean come on - you know there'e a problem when a woman is photoshopped so that her ANKLE is about the size of her WAIST!
I remember my jaw dropping and several languages worth of swear words escaping me when I saw that. The thing is that this image gets around! My 11 year old kid sister is more obsessed with her weight and what she puts in her mouth right now than I was in the past 4 or so year combined! I mean - seriously, 11 year olds should not be talking of diets, and counting calories! And you know that this will continue later on in life... *sigh*
Hahaha!
Hey guys
There's actually another Ralph Lauren, that seems to appreciate women with little, or a lot of junk. Check him out. lol

if size 4 is fat ive got no
if size 4 is fat ive got no chance haha i'm 5' 5" and weigh in at 12 stone dead on im a size 14 (uk) and i dont consider myself to be fat, These designers are all tapped in the head they need to see the real world.
good looks catch the eye, good personality catches the heart
Really?!
I'm 6' 135lbs and a size 7 ...does that make me fat? I don't think so... seriously Ralph Lauren?
the model is 2 in. shorter than me and 15 lbs lighter... *shakes head in disgust*
WTF
Filippa Hamiltion:
OMG, this girl is so not fat.
I can'T believe it! She's even really thin for a 5'10''!!!
If this is fat, then I must be a giant obese!!!
WTF!!!! YEAH WTF!!! You are so right, the designers should really start having sex with a women .. see then naked before calling them fat at 120 pounds!!!
I'm 5'5'' and i'm around 135 pounds and sorry, but I do not call myself fat at all.
Hope that little teenage girls don't see this, 'cause damn, they should not think that their fat if they weight 120 pounds...
Tina Fey:
I don't think she couldn't give it away, but maybe she wouldn't give it away..
That's an other story:P
Big shout out to the guy who said that it doesn't change anything on the heterosexual mariage.
lol
you are NOT a mammoth :)
oh and i so believe tina fey could've given it away..i mean...its tina fey... um hotness.
~ L is for the way you look at me
wtf happened to RL? did he used to be NOT psycho?
i commented on the photoshopped pic a few days ago on this site. so did hordes of other pissed off women of all sizes becuse it's freakin insane! her getting fired for "being fat"? just as stupid and crazy, and a lie, she's probably more than 10 pounds lighter than me and i don't think I'm the slightest bit fat.
Tina Fey, i think it's better that she went on SNL, then movies, then 30 rock than put out in high school like a lot of girls do. 24 that's a loooong time to wait though. hhmm. maybe it's true and she's just a rare kind of human being.
haha, that judge is awesome, a straight womans uterus is going to shrivel up and die because a gay couple just got married. haha. one of the things that made my day.....end of the day.
Hey hey hey!
Hey...wait a minutes..Tina Fey didn't say she wasn't ABLE to give it away, she said she COULDN'T. I think she's awesome but when she's just left to her own devices, I think she's probably just pretty nerdy and slightly awkward...well back in the day at least. or you can look at it from another angle...she's kinda awesome so she got to be picky. She didn't find anybody worthy of the Tina Fey Trophy until she met her husband. That honestly doesn't surprise me at all, and I find it totally believable!
I'm 22 and a virigin A. Because I was really ugly for a long time..haha. Late bloomer. Still working on the blooming. And B. Now that I have people interested...I find that I really can't just give that up to anybody! I've waited a WHILE and I'm totally able to contiune waiting for somebody who I trust and who I truly and deeply care about! TMI...anyways.
Yeah I'm 5 2 and in the 130s...I could lose a few for sure. Fat? Naw. The fact that she's 8 inches taller then me and 10 lbs lighter then me and is EVER called fat??!! RIDICULOUS and offensive. I'd like to smack somebody.

i disagree with ralph lauren
i disagree with ralph lauren about that model being fat... that model for me is supper skinny... and at 5'10. ur kidding mister.
"a straight person's uterus is gonna shrivel up and die" - hahaha... i listened to it again and again and still makes me laugh. and about the same-sex marriage, if ur having probs and not happy with ur hetero marriage thats ur problem. live and let live.
I don't agree with it I
I don't agree with it I should point that out, but the fashion industry didn't create this culture all on their own. Gloriously tall naturally slender women were put on a pedistal of superior genetics thus making others who are not genetically pre-disposed to be so thin try to be for fashion sake.
And she wasn't called fat, she just wasn't thin enough, big difference to me. There is a whole middle ground that is being ignored (average, normal, healthy) when people say she was called too fat.
As someone who has fallen victim to thinking she could be skinny when my body wasn't meant to be that way I think that the current culture of thinness is very dangerous. I am 5. 8" and was 120 pounds. This may not sound very slim, but I had ribs popping out everywhere, didn't get my period for over 18 months, and many other horrible side-effects. I think that people have slowly progressed to clothing looks best paraded on tall thin women, as one designer said he wanted his models to be walking coat hangers. While I don't agree with this AT ALL I don't like it when people say that want this modelled by "real" women. I remember seeing an add for Dove real women, my brother said gee I didn't know real women meant really beautiful with perfect teeth and skin. No matter where it goes the industry is about looking good, whatever culture deems that to be at the moment it will always be something others want to attain and do whatever they can to get it.
REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES!!!!
It's so tiring and worrysome to see that the fashion industry continues to turn a blind eye to the very real problem it's helping to foster in society. The message that young girls are receiving everywhere they turn is: get skinny and/or die trying.
What a shame.

I <3 Tina Fey.
I'm probably one of Tina's biggest lesbian fans.. When I say I'm one of her biggest gay fans, I mean if I had the choice to hook up with any woman in the entire world.. It would be Tina Fey. Or Mariska Hargitay..
anywhoozers, you're right. With her sense of humor alone we would think she would have had lots of options. But this is America annd we're kind of douchey in highschool to one another..
here's her school pic from tina-fey.org
http://tina-fey.org/photos/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=8&pos=2
I for one would totally still ask her out, but maybe that's because I'm predisposed to Tina now.
She is sooo dreamy. I like to think she was a total lesbian until 24 till she decided to get in a bearded relationship lol. She could be bisexual... I'm just saying..
model= not fat
she is definitely not fat
and tina fey?
come on,, she is gorgeous
i am having a hard time believing she couldnt give it away
i REALLY
hope thats a "snuggy". lol.
the weight issue is some bullshit. i seriously don't understand how so many companies get away with these morbid advertising tactics, im actually using that in a sentence with SKINNY instead of obese. i think its a crime. it really gets me going. i had an ex who ended up going "under the knife" because she had lost a lot of weight. she looked amazing before. and then surgery became an obsession and RUINED her personality.
by the way trish, for being sick, you sure look smashing!
The fashion industry is run
The fashion industry is run by gay men mostly, they wanna starve women til the have the figures of 12 year old boys.i loves me some gay men, but this is just how i see it.

I agree with everything you said about the weight issues. It really is ridiculous. I believe Tina's decision was a personal one, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. I trust her not too lie. She certainly is adorable though.
Me mentioning Tina's adorableness then had nothing to do with what I was saying, I just had to mention it. Yay, Tina :D
Also, I hope you feel better soon ^__^
Okay...as a 25 year old
Okay...as a 25 year old woman who has never kissed, had sex, or been in a relationship and is CERTAINLY not lying about it, the thing about Tina Fey really offends me. I DO believe her, and believe me, there are more of us out there than you'd think.
I don't discuss the fact that I've never done these things because I AM EMBARRASSED and I feel very worthless sometimes, and quite honestly, in this society, people like me are ridiculed. Add that to being a GLBTQ person and it's enough to make you wonder why you live.
There are people who might say I'm "too pretty" to be a virgin at my age, but I have social anxiety and other problems that have contributed to me being this way. Making fun of virgins isn't okay. Why is it that a woman who hasn't slept with anyone is ridiculed more than a woman who's slept with everyone?
That just pissed me off. As someone who lost their virginity and reached all those milestones at a "normal" age, it's really easy to forget that there ARE people out there who aren't there yet, and no matter how beautiful, smart or talented we may be, we JUST MIGHT ACTUALLY BE TELLING THE TRUTH.
