This second annual NewNowNext Awards will air on Logo on Saturday, June 13, and the nominees for each category were just announced this morning. Cause You're Hot

Jessica Clark (model/life coach)

Rachel Maddow (political commentator)

AfterEllen.com is also sponsoring our own award for the Best Lesbian Kiss on TV this year. You can vote for Otalia (Guiding Light), Callie and Arizona (Grey's Anatomy), TiBette (The L Word), Naomi and Emily (Skins), Portia and Ellen at the Emmys or Barb and Christine (The New Adventures of Old Christine).

I was wondering that

I was wondering that too! Maybe Trish was just trying to give the other nominee's a chance, because of course Naomi and Emily are in a league of their own, and will totally win anyway :) It seems only fair to let the others have a small chance of winning :P!

Cutie-pie extraordinaire

Cutie-pie extraordinaire Jasika is gay? Awesome :D I didn't know Lady Gaga had actually "come out", beyond dropping the usual line about "I'm hot for girls too."

Better Than Last Years Show?

Last year, I stumbled stumbled upon the sad “Sassy Commentary,” that aired alongside the awards show.  Looks like this year will be more of the same.

Here's the thing about "sassy” commentary (a.k.a. snark). At its best, snark is smart cultural commentary, a funny way for the defenseless to chip away at the people in power. For teh gays, snarking evolved out of necessity—we may not be in a position of power but we can laugh at those who are! We can cheer our supporters and jeer our detractors. It’s The Little People's Weapon, and it has served us well. It’s not a way for us to pick on each other for no reason—that’s just petty meanness.

At these awards, the meanness is especially disheartening because it’s sponsored by our only TV network. So, effectively, we are taking ourselves down. Imagine if the Academy of Motion Pictures had its members on-stage to heckle their own Oscar winners, or if an actor scathingly reviewed his own one-man show just as his audience filed in.

I'm not a completely humorless lesbian, I swear.  But, even the way this years awards were announced cut the ladies down ("Rachel Maddow! Aauhg!"?) I think these awards are a fail.  And, plus, they're not even funny.

Agreed!

I highly doubt that I'll be watching this year, since last year's show was so disappointing. The video of the nominees was just one epic fail, so that made me want to watch the show even less, if that were possible. I completely agree with you!
