Piper Perabo joins the CIA in USA's "Covert Affairs"

Since winning our lesbian hearts over in films like Imagine Me and You (and possibly farther back, if you loved the dramatics of Lost and Delirious or the bar dancing in Coyote Ugly), Piper Perabo hasn't always made the best career choices.

There was that awful waste of a great cast, Because I Said So, where she starred as one of Diane Keaton's daughters, alongside Mandy Moore and Lauren Graham. (Yes, it still sucked.)

Then there was Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Enough said.

But now I'm feeling as if Piper is back on the right track, as The Hollywood Reporter writes that she's been cast as the lead in the new show Covert Affairs. She'll play Annie Walker, as an ass-kicking CIA trainee who speaks six languages and "excels at any endeavor she undertakes." Yes, that sounds like a great role her.

The show will be a pilot for the USA Network, which has recently spawned hits like Burn Notice. And since that show has made some OK choices — like casting Sharon Gless and wanting to bring on Tyne Daly — I'd like to give the creators the benefit of the doubt that Piper will be a strong character, physically and emotionally.

The part that worries me, however, is this:

Walker joins the CIA while still reeling over a mysterious ex-boyfriend who appears to be of particular interest to her new bosses. She vows never to let herself be hurt again, but that proves to be a tall order.

Ex-boyfriend? Reeling? Vows? Ugh. Why can't she just join the CIA because it was her dream when she was a little girl, and all other girls wanted were weddings and ponies? That, apparently, is a tall order!

At any rate, I'm interested in hearing Piper take on five new languages. It's amazing she had time to memorize all of those kinds of things while her head was still wrapped up in her ex-boyfriend.

Wow...

I was hoping it might be another lesbian role, but I forgot its airing on USA Network...I love Piper, so I'll probably watch it and see if it's any good.

Huzzah!

Funnily enough, I was just looking at Piper Perabo's IMDB page thinking...when is this woman going to be in a production that deserves her.  Hope the series is good.  Speaking different languages is muy sexy.

Get Piper out of this now!!!

Love Piper, but this show sounds absolutely terrible!!! Enough people already confuse Piper with Jennifer Garner without Piper getting sucked into this "Alias".

Hm.

I'm not really that for it. I'm totally gravy with seeing her in something new, since BHC was just one of those movies that makes you go "...WHY?" and frown a lot, but I just don't know if this will be a good role for her. She's great in anything, practically, but it's sort of like how the show sounds like it will suck, dragging down her character with it. I would LOVE to be proven wrong though, and you can count on me at least attempting to watch this and make it through an entire episode when it comes on.

I saw her in a movie entitled something along the lines of "Dragon Sword" or beast, or something crazy. The movie sucked so much, that literally the only thing keeping me from turning it off was her. Needless to say, I might just watch the show to see her. And if they make her wear unattractive clothing, I will be very, very disappointed. Possibly disappointed enough to write a snickety letter to the network. (:

Love Piper Perabo

Always loved Piper Perabo, ever since Lost and Delirious (even though it ended so tragically, she rocked that role!) So even when the movies haven't turned out thrilling, and her parts have seemed a bit so so, I like to think it's mistakes on the part of the Directors as even the great actors who share those movies have a hard time of it in those cases... I like to assume the script had potential if the director had been better....  But anyway, it's good for her to keep working.  She definitely has more range than most directors tap into, so I hope that USA network will bring out her alternative side more.... they tend to have a skill for that at times... Whatever with the ex boyfriend, they should just make her less interested than the rest of her colleagues, and then she could realize she's a lesbian, yeah! LOL!

I love Piper

I've loved her since Lost and Delirious, and I've watched most of her movies, I refused to watch BHC, couldnt bring myself to do it. Some of her movies have been not the best but she seems to try do the best with what she's given. Ill watch and pray for the best!

Giving it a go

I'm willing to give this a go. It feels like it's been forever since Piper has been on-screen or at least anything decent. And like a few before me mentioned, I can't wait to watch her do the multiple language thing. Looking forward to it.
