Paige Turco plays a lesbian (again) in "The Stepfather"

It's probably safe to say that most of those heading to theaters to see the remake of The Stepfather are going for its young male star, Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley. But maybe some viewers have also heard that Sela Ward plays his unsuspecting mother who falls for the killer (Dylan Walsh) trying to destroy her family, and they want to see her in action.

Another incentive to seeing The Stepfather, besides it being close to Halloween and prime scary movie time, is that Paige Turco shows up as Sela's sister, Jackie, a lesbian in a relationship with Sherry Stringfield (ER).

Jackie is a realtor who hires the stepfather to do some work for her, but begins to grow weary of him. Lesbians: We're so skeptical smart.

You may recall Paige as Officer Abby Sullivan, NYPD Blue's resident lesbian cop for a season.

Or, perhaps you can only think of her as April O'Neil from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies. Either way she's on the path to becoming a lesbian icon.

According to reviews, the lesbian relationship is portrayed as normal, although one review did say that it "wasn't clear" whether they were girlfriends or BFFs. But in the script, and elsewhere, they are definitely described as lesbians, so it might just be that there isn't any discussion on their relationship and that is just accepted by everyone in their lives and there's no gratuitous lesbian kissing or sex scenes.

Have you seen The Stepfather? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the lesbians make it out alive.

and it's obvious they are a couple.  I caught on to it the first or second scene they were in, and a little while later out of nowhere my (straight) friend made the realization - "Oh! They're lesbians!"

It's sweet, and normal, and natural, and I wanted more of them and less of the really bad/awkward blonde actress who plays the girlfriend.

I have indeed seen the Stepfather, which btw is not really good, even though the acting is, and the lesbian relationship still exists.

I don't remember any kisses but there's one scene where the 2 women are shown being "intimate" in their bedroom, in their bathrobes and another scene where they say "i love you" in a clearly romantic way.

Their sexuality is not adressed in the movie so it seems it's well accepted by their family.

Well, that's some progress, right? If these two stayed alive by the end of the movie, this may be the most sane lesbian relationship on the big screen.

I noticed

I noticed they were a couple when they were in the bathroom with their robes on. I kind of like that they were portrayed so normally. I wish that would happen in more movies. When the blond one told the other one "I love you" there were a lot of awws in the theater so it's easy to assume we all thought it was cool. I really wanted Paige's character to live...so sad. How could they give us a cool lesbian and then just take her way.

Yay!

So great to see Sela Ward on screen again!  I fell in love with her a million years ago on Sisters, I think she was my first girl crush.  I know I only watched the show for her!  Nice to have her back.
