New Music Tuesday: 8-18-09

If you're looking for a great dance album this week, try Simian Mobile Disco's Temporary Pleasure, which features vocals from none other than Beth Ditto on the track, "Cruel Intentions."

Speaking of Simian Mobile Disco, they also made one of the best lesbian-esque music videos of all time for their single "Hustler." Check it out sometime.

OTEP — Smash the Control Machine (Victory Records)

Lesbian frontwoman Otep Shamaya leads the metal band on their latest album, which features the title track as it's rocking single. After years of recording for major label Capitol, the band has moved to Victory Records for its second independent release.

Rasheeda — Certified Hot Chick (D-Lo Entertainment)

The rapper/vocalist releases her fifth solo album, featuring cameos from the likes of Nelly and Shawna. Fans of Trina and Lil' Kim can get down with Rasheeda's style of sassy songs like single, "Boss Chick."

Reba McEntire — Keep On Lovin' You (The Valory Music Co.)

It's hard to believe the country legend hasn't released in album since 2003, since she's made cameos on several other artists' records and continued to win awards from Billboard and the Country Radio Association. Keep On Lovin' You features all new songs, including "Strange" and "Consider Me Gone."

    Brandi Carlile just released the 1st single off of her 3rd album today and it's available via iTunes. The song is called "Dreams" and the album is coming out in early October.

    YAY for new Brandi C music. I can't wait for the new album.

    And it's about time that Reba puts out something new. I'm glad that she keeps coming back to her music roots, even after doing all of her other projects. Now, if only Barbara Mandrell would follow Reba's footsteps.

    I'm happy someone mentioned this!  The vinyl will be available 09/29 (I believe).  I know "GUTG" will be avail for pre-order sometime soon, but no specs yet that I can find.

    I cannot wait to get the new Otep cd **swoons***  Powerful, Important and Inescapable.  Thats all I can think of when I listen to Otep. Thanks for writing about it.

     Got I can't waite for that ablum to come out. Every ablum that she has made has just gotten better and better I can only imagn on what the bass lines are going to be like.

    I'm coping that the second it comes out. They will be like why is there a tent in front of the music store? Its me getting the hottest girl in metal's new cd. Sheyeah!!!!!!

    I'm looking forward to Billie Myers new album which comes out in September (I think).  You can get the first single off the album ('I Hope You're Happy Now') from iTunes now (I love it).

    I pre-orderded the deluxe edition of STCM and it came in the mail last friday. I nearly had a heartattack when I saw the package in the mailbox. It's an absolutely amazing record.

    Headed to the show this evening at Grammercy Theater. I have never seen them live and am looking forward to checking them out. I dig the fact that the original guitarist and drummer are back and rocking the f*ck out with Otep again.

    They have no lesbian (or even female) band members, but I feel I should mention that Third Eye Blind's new CD, Ursa Major, came out this week. I am waiting for my copy to arrive in the mail and I am incredibly excited.

    heck yes. i dont care what anyone says, she's one of my all time faves. The Heart wont lie is perhaps my favorite country song ever. Looking forward to this!

    The Simian Mobile Disco song is good, I think it's the first song of theirs I've particularly liked. The Hustler video was exploitative and surely targeted at straight men, but... I kind of like it.

    now that otep is becoming mainstream after all these long years im quite sad :( everything'll change now and idiot people trying to look cool will be blaring their music until it annoys me ooooh well otep shamaya is still gorgeous as ever

    Hey Trish,

    You've gotta listen to this new band Post Post. They're an all-girl, all-queer band of college juniors based out of Bryn Mawr College, and their first EP is coming out September 4th. Their frontwoman has opened for bands like Deerhoof, Maria Taylor (who you recently featured), M. Ward, and Kimya Dawson and the band's opened for acts like Beach House and Hey Willpower (another band that was recently featured on Afterellen, I remember).

    Anyways, I've mentioned them on these boards before, but their album has been stuck on repeat for a while now. I think fans of Tegan and Sara will really like them.

    OT3P! They're one of the best bands out there, and Otep has an amazing voice. She can do anything, lol.
