New Music Tuesday: 6-2-09

If you liked The Sounds' first two albums, you will love Crossing the Rubicon. If you've never heard The Sounds, you will love Crossing the Rubicon.

OK, perhaps you aren't into synthy-pop rock with a hot Swedish bisexual singer named Maja Ivarsson, but I can't really imagine why not. Think 1979-based Blondie with even more sex appeal and an accent, and you will be into this band. Crossing the Rubicon is a racing heartbeat-paced album that is perfectly timed for the first week of June, meaning it's time to roll down your windows and turn up the party music.

And if you're like Maja, time to put on your hot pants.

Here's what else is new this week:

Butterfly Boucher — Scary Fragile (Nettwerk Records)

The Aussie singer/songwriter originally released this album in 2007 as a limited release, and now it's available everywhere and digitally. Her songs are sexy and very much like her former tour mate Sarah McLachlan's.

Girl in a Coma — Trio B.C. (Blackheart Records)

With a mix of rockabilly and alternative '90s rock sound, the band's follow-up to Both Before I'm Gone is more polished but with grungy grit still in tact. Fans will not be disappointed.

Vanessa Williams — The Real Thing (Concord Records)

Who didn't love "Save the Best for Last?" If you can remember Vanessa's '90s slow jam fondly like I can, then maybe you'd be up for giving her new album a spin. That's what it is, really — adult contemporary love songs. Try it out if that's your bag.

    Maja and I had eye sex at the signing booth at the No Doubt concert. It was magical. Nah, really. The Sounds are amazing! I'm just disappointed a lot of people weren't there to see them at the concert. Even the same with Paramore. It started to get packed when No Doubt was setting up. Great freakin' concert! Everyone should see them!

    2 weeks ago I saw Gossip live and it was the best concert of my life (although it was way too short)!  Can't wait for their new album. Already preordered.

    I will definitely check out the new sounds album.

    I can also recommend the new Peaches album "I feel cream" and the latest album from Röyksopp "Junior". :-)

    The Sounds! I'm so loving this album at the moment :) And Maja will one day be my wife, honest.
    Also loving Silverstein - Shipwreck On The Sand and Ingrid Michaelson, well just her in general :D 

    I really hope The Sounds and Paramore tour with No Doubt when they come to the UK :(

    love maja but i'd give that award to juliette of juliette & the licks every day of the week. she's insane. juliette lewis is even better on stage than on film. =o)

    Saw them in concert this last weekend in Dallas and they were amazing. Wish they had played a longer set but Im just happy I was able to see them. I met them after their set it was so great. Got a picture of the band and got a picture with Maja too I loved her pose. They signed my shirt too so that was a highlight in my life! Love their new album and will definitely see them again when they come back to the area on tour.

      the new album is FANTASTIC.

    Beatbox will make you a believer and Midnight Sun will probably be on the fanmix  you make to your favorite OTP. Yes. I said it.

    Love them, and get to see them live for the first time this Friday in ATL.  Can't wait!  Will have to find that new cd first though.

    Checked them out while they were plugging it at Best Buy last night and I think they shook the whole Galleria.

    Going to see a proper show tonight at Fitzgerald's in Houston!
