News, Reviews & Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual women in Entertainment and the Media

New Music Tuesday: 5-19-09

Bisexual singer Sia has been in the studio, working on her follow-up to Some People Have Real Problems, but to tide us over, she's released a DVD this week, called TV is My Parent.

The DVD features live footage from a performance at New York's Hiro Ballroom, as well as four music videos and other behind-the-scenes shots of the Aussie songstress. If you aren't so into watching as you are listening, she also released an EP on iTunes this month, the Live From Sydney EP.

Also out today:

Tori AmosAbnormally Attracted to Sin (Universal Republic)

The singer's tenth studio album is salacious sounding, with sexy electro-vibes reminiscent of Garbage and Portishead. It works for Tori, who has never shied away from inventing new ways to use her voice and piano.

LaKisha JonesSo Glad I'm Me (Elite Music LLC)

An American Idol finalist from 2007, LaKisha Jones sings gospel-influenced R&B much like she did on the show. Her debut includes a cover of Whitney Houston's "You Give Good Love." The rest of the songs are personal, including "Grateful" about her AI experience and "Beautiful Girl," dedicated to her daughter.

Miss Kittin & The HackerTwo (Nobody's Bizzness)

The DJs have collaborated before on First Album in 2001, but their return together has an entirely new sound. They call it "club-based European cyber-pop," and if you like to dance, you will not be disappointed. Try on the track "Suspicious Minds" for size.

Polly ScattergoodPolly Scattergood (Mute Records)

The UK-based singer/pianist's debut album will please fans of Adele or Rachael Yamagata, as her vocal range is limitless and her song matter is a little too dark to be completely accessible pop. Songs like "Please Don't Touch" are interesting and irresistible.

Tori Amos <3

I looooove Tori Amos!! The new album is just perfect, the only song I don't like is Mary Jane, the rest is pure awesomeness. I'm seeing her live in September, I can't wait!!

Sia

I absolutely LOVE Sia. I've seen her in concert twice and both times were SO amazing. I can't believe how good she is live. Her voice, her presence, her energy. Unbelievable! Can't want to get my copy of her new dvd :)

Tori-Effing-Amos

Ok, I dunno if this is a cliche'd phrase in the homo community now-a-days, but I'd strangle a mountain ox with my bare hands for Tori Amos.

"But to see her was to love her, love but her, and love forever."

Miss Kittin!

My Gods, this woman is fantastic! Used to have some of her tracks but they got lost in a move. New album sounds a-mah-zing! Definitely good driving music, as well as Sunday morning chill brunch music.
