New Music Tuesday: 3-24-09It's another great week in record releases. One that I want to highlight is Stevie Nicks' newest, Stevie Nicks: The Soundstage Sessions.
The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman redoes some old hits such as "Sara" and "Landslide," but what she really shines on is her rendition of the Dave Matthews Band's "Crash." Leave it to Ms. Nicks to make that song listenable. Also out this week: Keri Hilson — In A Perfect World... (Interscope Records) The latest R&B singer to take on the charts with songs not only her own but lent to other artists, Keri Hilson has managed to make the jump from successful songwriter to pop star. Tracks like "Energy" and "Turning Me On" make this album a must-own for fans of the Top 40. Indigo Girls — Poseidon and the Bitter Bug (IG Recordings) Two discs of new Indigo Girls songs include 10 tracks split in half — five tracks written by Emily Saliers and the other five from Amy Ray. One disc contains fully orchestrated versions, and the other is acoustic. Consider it a gift from them to you. Donna De Lory — Sanctuary (Nettwerk Records) A prolific singer/songwriter with a genetic disposition to great music (her dad is musician/record producer/arranger Al De Lory (Pet Sounds), De Lory's latest is a chill, meditative album with spiritual elements. It's ambient music for those who appreciate artists like Frou Frou and Zero 7. The Decemberists — Hazards of Love (Capitol Records) The eccentric, Portland-based rock group has a concept album about "a woman named Margaret, her shape-shifting forest-dwelling lover William and various obstacles an evil queen, a murderous rake between them and bliss." Lavender Diamond's Becky Stark sings Margaret's parts on the album. It's intriguing and definitely worth a spin. Submitted by on March 24, 2009 - 2:00pm. |

Love Is All has a new European release album and tour dates out this week, too.

They're definitely worth a listen. Their lead singer reminds me of Kathleen Hanna.
The Decemberists!
I'm sorry....
I'm sorry, but I hate the Indigo Girls --I have yet to hear one song of theirs that I am even tempted to like. I love Stevie - Keri Hilson seems to have a good hook, I might download a song or three before buying it though. Donna De Lory might well be worth a spin too...

Thanks for letting us know
Thanks for letting us know about Donna!
I wonder if she'll join the tour (Sticky & Sweet round 2) now that her album is out? Or maybe she wants to spend time with her baby and promo the album in States instead of Europe? Would be great to have her back with M :)
Stevie!
Afterellen + Stevie mention = LOVES it.
I was there for the Soundstage recording in Chicago - she did a fantastic job. She really put a lot into it. It's definitely worth the listen.
In a Perfect World
Go get it! and treat your ears to something new. Directed to the people above, and the "I'm too sophisticated for urban music" crowd on here.
I saw the Indigo Girls in concert
last week, and they were breath-taking. Each song they sang, the 2000-strong crowd was so silent you could hear people breathing. I saw them up close in an interview as well, and they're two of the most beautiful, confidently quiet women I've ever seen.
And seriously, does all good American indie music come out of Portland? That must be some kind of music heaven. I'll get me there some day!
a gift
--"Consider it a gift from them to you."--
It's always a gift just to hear the great harmonies of Amy & Emily. Love the new IG albums, I've just finished listening the first time through. Now I need to track down Stevie's new one.
