Natalie Portman says her sex scene with Mila Kunis is "extreme"

Actress Natalie Portman posed for the cover of the winter issue for V magazine, and was asked about her new role in the film Black Swan, which began shooting in New York City this month. Up until this point, we've known little about the film, other than Natalie and Mila Kunis play rival ballerinas who end up bedding one another.

From V:

It's a pretty serious sex scene, and a lesbian one at that. Portman, however, insists “it’s not raunchy—it’s extreme.”

She used to avoid roles like this, at first turning down 1999’s Anywhere But Here because of a nude scene. (It was excised to get her back on board.)

“I was figuring out my own sexual identity, likes and dislikes and all that stuff, and it’s weird to be doing stuff on film as you’re figuring it out,” she explains. “Also, being a sexual object when you’re a kid is really uncomfortable. After The Professional, I was already getting creepy letters.”

She’s still somewhat inhibited by what lurks on the Internet. “It’s annoying, because online bullsh-tinterferes with what I want to do artistically. I’m not opposed to sexuality or nudity in a film, but I’m very opposed to pornography sites and you’re pretty much giving them material if you do any of that. It’s always a big dilemma for me.”

As if their bodies weren't awesome already, both Mila and Natalie had to train intensely for their roles, as Mila noted they have had to study dancing "7 days a week, 4-5 hours a day of doing ballet cardio and pilates."

The co-stars have been seen attending performances around NYC, and darn it if they don't look adorable together.

Besides the sex scene, I can't wait to see Black Swan, based on the description I recently found, calling it a "supernatural drama is set in the world of New York City Ballet."

Natalie Portman stars as a veteran ballerina who finds herself “locked in to a competitive showdown with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance.” But it isn’t as simple as that — the big twist is that Portman’s character is not sure whether her rival is a supernatural apparition or if she is having delusions. Mila Kunis is playing the rival dancer named Lilly.

It does sound a little bit like High Tension with tutus, but really, I can't wait.

Are you kidding me? I would NOT be picky!

Never really thought of Mila "in that way" until I saw that "After Sex" movie where she and Zoe Saldana were roommates/lovers. OMG!!!!!!

Natalie just does it for me, though. Even surpasses Leighton M., which is saying a lot for me :))

I've read the script, or at least a version of it, and the sex scene is definitely left open to how the director wants to interpret it between the women. I think by describing it as 'extreme' Portman might be hinting at how her character in some ways is desperately drawn to the other character, in a needful way, not a fatal attraction way. Still gotta wait and see the movie once it's out and what Aronofsky decided to do with that line of action in the film.

yes! finally! ive been waiting for natalie to change her usual "love story girl" road.

I love her but i was always waiting for her to play something interesting and different from all her usual roles.

With that said, ive been waiting for her to play gay or bi. so this lesbian scene is worth it! ( i hope).

When asked in the June 2002 isssue of Rollingstone (of which she was on the Cover) Ms. Portman replied:

"Sure. I've never dated a woman of anything like that, But, I mean, I think it's much more the person that you fall in love with ? and why would you close yourself off to fifty percent of the people?..."

A very intorspective bit that had a profound effect on me as a senior in high school causing me to keep this issue of Rollingstone. I, additionally, like to quote the "...why would 'I' close myself off to fifty percent of the people?..." when coyly referring to my sexuality. You can read the article yourself here:

There is a very noteworthy discussion of her dolls having sexual orgies.

She also went on to explain that she believes she is more attracted to men than women. (reinforced by the fact that she is dating musician Devendra Banhart) Seven years have passed since this article but I believe that she was going through the very common transition of discovering herself. Which is quite common for that time period, she was only in her early 20's. I also believe that at that time she was just verging out into living on her own and not with her parents. Perhaps it is not everyone's standard operating procedure but I know that I did not branch out sexually until I moved away from home. I'm not sure if that was due to respecting my Mother so much as being highly conscious of the fact that I didn't want her to acknowledge that her daughter was a sexual being. Not my cup of tea.

I also imagine that it would be extremely awkward to portray onscreen different sexual acts that you were uncomfortable with in your personal life or at least familiar with and that Ms. Portman just wanted to experience as much as she could first and then decide if it was something she was willing to portray.

and had just looked at that first picture I would've thought this was about Keira Knightly.

I am SO going to see this movie! I'm going to be in line a day before the movie opens because it sounds better and better...that last picture definitely moved things along for me! Natalie and Mila look so damn hot!

it's not a romantic scene at all. I already read the script and 'extreme' is adequate for the masses.

if the script I read (from march) is the one that is being made, there will also be a small scene of natalie masturbating.

in some ways, it's a bit like Mulholland Drive. I wasn't too impressed with the script but I'm hoping Aronofsky will do something special with it.

What was she thinking? It's especially weird in light of her own complaints about being sexually objectified as a child actress in this interview. Um, hello? Perhaps a little sympathy for another sexually objectified child actress? The one who was, you know, raped by your buddy Roman Polanski?

All that said, I'm still a firm believer in separating artists' real life opinions and choices, noxious though they may be, from the work they create-- so I'm still interested in seeing this film. Just please don't let it be another movie where lesbianism=crazy unhealthy obsession.

I've been a Natalie Portman fan for years. She's always seemed like the perfect woman to me. Gorgeous, incredibly smart, and talented. So this is great news. I can't wait to see the movie, and the "extreme" sex scene.

This sounds really good....I hope it delivers, although I would like to think that Natalie Portman wouldn't do something that wasn't at lest 90% awsome! I will definatly be checking this out when it comes out over here!
