She Got Me Pregnant: Episode 85

This week, Dana and Helen of Mombian.com celebrate Banned Books Week with old and new LGBT-themed children's books that made the American Library Association's Most Challenged Books list (as well as a children's book that was challenged in 1959 for promoting interracial marriage).

They also commend President Obama for including same-sex-headed families in a recent proclamation. After that, it's on to entertainment, where they discuss a live version of the classic Schoolhouse Rock (and manage not to burst into song too many times), as well as a great new series about the national parks.

Check back every Thursday for a new episode.

between mom and jo

Speaking of books about LGBT families, i recently read Between Mom and Jo, by Julie Ann Peters.  It is from the prospective of a 14 year old son of lesbian moms who are breaking up.  I loved her books Far From Xanadu and Keeping You a Secret about teenage lesbians and Luna about a transgirl, from the prospective of her little sister. I didn't relate as much to Between Mom and Jo, but maybe it is because I am not a mombian (yet).

would you have done anything differently?

Me(20) and my girlfriend(21) have been together for 3 years and are starting the talk about moving in and getting married in a couple years and about having kids in about ten years. Is there any preparation you can suggest to make each transition go as smooth as possible? I am a planner so if there is anything I can do now that will help my family become stronger later I would love to know. Also looking back to before you had your son would you have done anything differently in preparation for becoming mothers? Sorry this is not the topic of books but i have been catching up on your vlogs and these questions kept popping up in my head. Thank you and Keep up the vlogging it really is great! :)
